Be not afraid of them; for they cannot do evil, neither also[ is it] in them to do good.Forasmuch as[ there is] none like unto thee, O LORD; thou[ art] great, and thy name[ is] great in might.Who would not fear thee, O King of nations? for to thee doth it appertain: forasmuch as among all the wise[ men] of the nations, and in all their kingdoms,[ there is] none like unto thee.But they are altogether brutish and foolish: the stock[ is] a doctrine of vanities.

Having the understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God through the ignorance that is in them, because of the blindness of their heart:

As concerning therefore the eating of those things that are offered in sacrifice unto idols, we know that an idol[ is] nothing in the world, and that[ there is] none other God but one.

O LORD, my strength, and my fortress, and my refuge in the day of affliction, the Gentiles shall come unto thee from the ends of the earth, and shall say, Surely our fathers have inherited lies, vanity, and[ things] wherein[ there is] no profit.Shall a man make gods unto himself, and they[ are] no gods?

They have not known nor understood: for he hath shut their eyes, that they cannot see;[ and] their hearts, that they cannot understand.

Assemble yourselves and come; draw near together, ye[ that are] escaped of the nations: they have no knowledge that set up the wood of their graven image, and pray unto a god[ that] cannot save.

And they took the bullock which was given them, and they dressed[ it], and called on the name of Baal from morning even until noon, saying, O Baal, hear us. But[ there was] no voice, nor any that answered. And they leaped upon the altar which was made.And it came to pass at noon, that Elijah mocked them, and said, Cry aloud: for he[ is] a god; either he is talking, or he is pursuing, or he is in a journey,[ or] peradventure he sleepeth, and must be awaked.And they cried aloud, and cut themselves after their manner with knives and lancets, till the blood gushed out upon them.And it came to pass, when midday was past, and they prophesied until the[ time] of the offering of the[ evening] sacrifice, that[ there was] neither voice, nor any to answer, nor any that regarded.And Elijah said unto all the people, Come near unto me. And all the people came near unto him. And he repaired the altar of the LORD[ that was] broken down.And Elijah took twelve stones, according to the number of the tribes of the sons of Jacob, unto whom the word of the LORD came, saying, Israel shall be thy name:And with the stones he built an altar in the name of the LORD: and he made a trench about the altar, as great as would contain two measures of seed.And he put the wood in order, and cut the bullock in pieces, and laid[ him] on the wood, and said, Fill four barrels with water, and pour[ it] on the burnt sacrifice, and on the wood.And he said, Do[ it] the second time. And they did[ it] the second time. And he said, Do[ it] the third time. And they did[ it] the third time.And the water ran round about the altar; and he filled the trench also with water.And it came to pass at[ the time of] the offering of the[ evening] sacrifice, that Elijah the prophet came near, and said, LORD God of Abraham, Isaac, and of Israel, let it be known this day that thou[ art] God in Israel, and[ that] I[ am] thy servant, and[ that] I have done all these things at thy word.Hear me, O LORD, hear me, that this people may know that thou[ art] the LORD God, and[ that] thou hast turned their heart back again.Then the fire of the LORD fell, and consumed the burnt sacrifice, and the wood, and the stones, and the dust, and licked up the water that[ was] in the trench.And when all the people saw[ it], they fell on their faces: and they said, The LORD, he[ is] the God; the LORD, he[ is] the God.And Elijah said unto them, Take the prophets of Baal; let not one of them escape. And they took them: and Elijah brought them down to the brook Kishon, and slew them there.

Of a truth, LORD, the kings of Assyria have laid waste all the nations, and their countries,And have cast their gods into the fire: for they[ were] no gods, but the work of men’s hands, wood and stone: therefore they have destroyed them.Now therefore, O LORD our God, save us from his hand, that all the kingdoms of the earth may know that thou[ art] the LORD,[ even] thou only.

They lavish gold out of the bag, and weigh silver in the balance,[ and] hire a goldsmith; and he maketh it a god: they fall down, yea, they worship.They bear him upon the shoulder, they carry him, and set him in his place, and he standeth; from his place shall he not remove: yea,[ one] shall cry unto him, yet can he not answer, nor save him out of his trouble.

In that day a man shall cast his idols of silver, and his idols of gold, which they made[ each one] for himself to worship, to the moles and to the bats;To go into the clefts of the rocks, and into the tops of the ragged rocks, for fear of the LORD, and for the glory of his majesty, when he ariseth to shake terribly the earth.

In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.

Cursed[ be] the man that maketh[ any] graven or molten image, an abomination unto the LORD, the work of the hands of the craftsman, and putteth[ it] in[ a] secret[ place]. And all the people shall answer and say, Amen.

But in his estate shall he honour the God of forces: and a god whom his fathers knew not shall he honour with gold, and silver, and with precious stones, and pleasant things.

Bring forth the blind people that have eyes, and the deaf that have ears.

Saying to a stock, Thou[ art] my father; and to a stone, Thou hast brought me forth: for they have turned[ their] back unto me, and not[ their] face: but in the time of their trouble they will say, Arise, and save us.But where[ are] thy gods that thou hast made thee? let them arise, if they can save thee in the time of thy trouble: for[ according to] the number of thy cities are thy gods, O Judah.

Go and cry unto the gods which ye have chosen; let them deliver you in the time of your tribulation.

Are there[ any] among the vanities of the Gentiles that can cause rain? or can the heavens give showers?[ art] not thou he, O LORD our God? therefore we will wait upon thee: for thou hast made all these[ things].

Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools,

For ye were sometimes darkness, but now[ are ye] light in the Lord: walk as children of light:

Hear, ye deaf; and look, ye blind, that ye may see.

What profiteth the graven image that the maker thereof hath graven it; the molten image, and a teacher of lies, that the maker of his work trusteth therein, to make dumb idols?Woe unto him that saith to the wood, Awake; to the dumb stone, Arise, it shall teach! Behold, it[ is] laid over with gold and silver, and[ there is] no breath at all in the midst of it.But the LORD[ is] in his holy temple: let all the earth keep silence before him.

He feedeth on ashes: a deceived heart hath turned him aside, that he cannot deliver his soul, nor say,[ Is there] not a lie in my right hand?

Bel boweth down, Nebo stoopeth, their idols were upon the beasts, and upon the cattle: your carriages[ were] heavy loaden;[ they are] a burden to the weary[ beast].They stoop, they bow down together; they could not deliver the burden, but themselves are gone into captivity.

But hast lifted up thyself against the Lord of heaven; and they have brought the vessels of his house before thee, and thou, and thy lords, thy wives, and thy concubines, have drunk wine in them; and thou hast praised the gods of silver, and gold, of brass, iron, wood, and stone, which see not, nor hear, nor know: and the God in whose hand thy breath[ is], and whose[ are] all thy ways, hast thou not glorified:
