我使假先知的预兆无法应验，使占卜者丑态百出；我颠覆智者的知识，使之愚不可及。

我破坏假先知的预兆，使占卜者显为愚妄；我颠覆了智慧人，使他们的知识变为愚拙；

是那使信口胡謅者的兆頭無效的，使占卜者變成了狂妄人，使智慧人退後，使他們的智識變為愚拙的，

我破壞假先知的預兆，使占卜者顯為愚妄；我顛覆了智慧人，使他們的知識變為愚拙；

我使誑者之兆不驗、卜筮之輩顚狂、智者卻退、其聰慧變為愚拙、

卜筮之輩、設兆惑人、我使其言不驗、彼自矜巧慧、反形愚拙、我使之然。

使偽先知所言預兆無驗、使卜筮者顯為愚、使智慧人退後、使其靈巧變為愚拙、

who foils the signs of false prophets and makes fools of diviners, who overthrows the learning of the wise and turns it into nonsense,

“ Some prophets are not really prophets at all. I show that their signs are fake. I make those who practice evil magic look foolish. I destroy the learning of those who think they are wise. Their knowledge does not make any sense at all.

who frustrates the signs of liars and makes fools of diviners, who turns wise men back and makes their knowledge foolish,

I expose the false prophets as liars and make fools of fortune tellers. I cause the wise to give bad advice, thus proving them to be fools.

who destroys the omens of the false prophets and makes fools of diviners; who confounds the wise and makes their knowledge foolishness;

Causing the omens of diviners to fail, Making fools of fortune tellers; Causing wise men to turn back And making their knowledge ridiculous,

Who frustrates the signs of the babblers, And drives diviners mad; Who turns wise men backward, And makes their knowledge foolishness;

that frustrateth the signs of the liars, and maketh diviners mad; that turneth wise men backward, and maketh their knowledge foolish;

who destroys the omens of the false prophets and makes fools of diviners; who confounds the wise and makes their knowledge foolishness;

That frustrateth the tokens of the liars, and maketh diviners mad; that turneth wise[ men] backward, and maketh their knowledge foolish;

who frustrates the omens of the empty talkers and humiliates the omen readers, who overturns the counsel of the wise men and makes their advice seem foolish,

who frustrates the signs of the liars, and makes diviners mad; who turns wise men backward, and makes their knowledge foolish;

The Lord foils the plans of the nations; he thwarts the purposes of the peoples. (niv)

He thwarts the plans of the crafty, so that their hands achieve no success.He catches the wise in their craftiness, and the schemes of the wily are swept away.Darkness comes upon them in the daytime; at noon they grope as in the night. (niv)

Now David had been told,“ Ahithophel is among the conspirators with Absalom.” So David prayed,“ Lord, turn Ahithophel’s counsel into foolishness.” (niv)

A sword against her false prophets! They will become fools. A sword against her warriors! They will be filled with terror. (niv)

Let your astrologers come forward, those stargazers who make predictions month by month, let them save you from what is coming upon you.Surely they are like stubble; the fire will burn them up. They cannot even save themselves from the power of the flame. These are not coals for warmth; this is not a fire to sit by. (niv)

His face turned pale and he was so frightened that his legs became weak and his knees were knocking.The king summoned the enchanters, astrologers and diviners. Then he said to these wise men of Babylon,“ Whoever reads this writing and tells me what it means will be clothed in purple and have a gold chain placed around his neck, and he will be made the third highest ruler in the kingdom.”Then all the king’s wise men came in, but they could not read the writing or tell the king what it meant. When the magicians, enchanters, astrologers and diviners came, I told them the dream, but they could not interpret it for me. (niv)

So do not listen to your prophets, your diviners, your interpreters of dreams, your mediums or your sorcerers who tell you,‘ You will not serve the king of Babylon.’They prophesy lies to you that will only serve to remove you far from your lands; I will banish you and you will perish. (niv)

Now Zedekiah son of Kenaanah had made iron horns and he declared,“ This is what the Lord says:‘ With these you will gore the Arameans until they are destroyed.’”All the other prophets were prophesying the same thing.“ Attack Ramoth Gilead and be victorious,” they said,“ for the Lord will give it into the king’s hand.” (niv)

The officials of Zoan are nothing but fools; the wise counselors of Pharaoh give senseless advice. How can you say to Pharaoh,“ I am one of the wise men, a disciple of the ancient kings”?Where are your wise men now? Let them show you and make known what the Lord Almighty has planned against Egypt.The officials of Zoan have become fools, the leaders of Memphis are deceived; the cornerstones of her peoples have led Egypt astray.The Lord has poured into them a spirit of dizziness; they make Egypt stagger in all that she does, as a drunkard staggers around in his vomit. Now in those days the advice Ahithophel gave was like that of one who inquires of God. That was how both David and Absalom regarded all of Ahithophel’s advice. (niv)

Concerning Edom: This is what the Lord Almighty says:“ Is there no longer wisdom in Teman? Has counsel perished from the prudent? Has their wisdom decayed? (niv)

The magicians could not stand before Moses because of the boils that were on them and on all the Egyptians. (niv)

In every matter of wisdom and understanding about which the king questioned them, he found them ten times better than all the magicians and enchanters in his whole kingdom. (niv)

So the king died and was brought to Samaria, and they buried him there. (niv)

All the other prophets were prophesying the same thing.“ Attack Ramoth Gilead and be victorious,” they said,“ for the Lord will give it into the king’s hand.” (niv)

“‘ By what means?’ the Lord asked.“‘ I will go out and be a deceiving spirit in the mouths of all his prophets,’ he said.“‘ You will succeed in enticing him,’ said the Lord.‘ Go and do it.’“ So now the Lord has put a deceiving spirit in the mouths of all these prophets of yours. The Lord has decreed disaster for you.”Then Zedekiah son of Kenaanah went up and slapped Micaiah in the face.“ Which way did the spirit from the Lord go when he went from me to speak to you?” he asked.Micaiah replied,“ You will find out on the day you go to hide in an inner room.” (niv)

For the wisdom of this world is foolishness in God’s sight. As it is written:“ He catches the wise in their craftiness”;and again,“ The Lord knows that the thoughts of the wise are futile.” (niv)

All day long the battle raged, and the king of Israel propped himself up in his chariot facing the Arameans until evening. Then at sunset he died. (niv)

When Ahithophel saw that his advice had not been followed, he saddled his donkey and set out for his house in his hometown. He put his house in order and then hanged himself. So he died and was buried in his father’s tomb. (niv)

The astrologers answered the king,“ There is no one on earth who can do what the king asks! No king, however great and mighty, has ever asked such a thing of any magician or enchanter or astrologer.What the king asks is too difficult. No one can reveal it to the king except the gods, and they do not live among humans.”This made the king so angry and furious that he ordered the execution of all the wise men of Babylon. (niv)

Where is the wise person? Where is the teacher of the law? Where is the philosopher of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world?For since in the wisdom of God the world through its wisdom did not know him, God was pleased through the foolishness of what was preached to save those who believe.Jews demand signs and Greeks look for wisdom,but we preach Christ crucified: a stumbling block to Jews and foolishness to Gentiles,but to those whom God has called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God.For the foolishness of God is wiser than human wisdom, and the weakness of God is stronger than human strength.Brothers and sisters, think of what you were when you were called. Not many of you were wise by human standards; not many were influential; not many were of noble birth.But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong. (niv)

But the prophet who prophesies peace will be recognized as one truly sent by the Lord only if his prediction comes true.”Then the prophet Hananiah took the yoke off the neck of the prophet Jeremiah and broke it,and he said before all the people,“ This is what the Lord says:‘ In the same way I will break the yoke of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon off the neck of all the nations within two years.’” At this, the prophet Jeremiah went on his way.After the prophet Hananiah had broken the yoke off the neck of the prophet Jeremiah, the word of the Lord came to Jeremiah:“ Go and tell Hananiah,‘ This is what the Lord says: You have broken a wooden yoke, but in its place you will get a yoke of iron.This is what the Lord Almighty, the God of Israel, says: I will put an iron yoke on the necks of all these nations to make them serve Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, and they will serve him. I will even give him control over the wild animals.’”Then the prophet Jeremiah said to Hananiah the prophet,“ Listen, Hananiah! The Lord has not sent you, yet you have persuaded this nation to trust in lies.Therefore this is what the Lord says:‘ I am about to remove you from the face of the earth. This very year you are going to die, because you have preached rebellion against the Lord.’”In the seventh month of that same year, Hananiah the prophet died. (niv)
