那些从钱袋倒出金子，用天平称银子的人，雇用金匠制造神像；他们向神像又俯伏又叩拜。他们把神像抬起来，扛在肩头上，然后把它安置在固定的地方，它就立在那里，总不离开它的本位。虽然有人向它呼求，它也不能回答；它也不能救人脱离患难。

众民劳碌得来的，被火焚烧；列国辛劳而得的，终归无有。这不都出于万军之耶和华吗？

因为万民所信奉的都是虚空，只是从林中砍下的树木，是匠人用凿刀制成的产品。他们用金银把它修饰，用钉子和锤子把它钉牢，使它不动摇。它们像瓜田里的稻草人，不能说话；它们必须要人抬着走，因为它们不能走路。你们不要害怕它们，因它们不能降祸，也不能降福。”耶和华啊！没有可以跟你相比的；你是伟大的，你的名大有能力。万国的王啊！谁敢不敬畏你呢？这是你应得的。因为在列国所有的智慧人中，以及在他们的全国里，没有可以跟你相比的。他们全是顽梗愚昧，他们所领受的教导是来自那些虚无、木做的偶像。那些偶像镶有经过锤炼的银片，银子是从他施运来的，也有从乌法运来的金子，都是匠人和金匠手作的产品。它们穿着蓝色和紫色的衣服，全都是巧匠的作品。只有耶和华是真神；他是永活的神，是永远的君王。他一发怒，大地就震动，万国都不能承受他的忿怒。你们要对他们这样说：“那些没有创造天地的神，必从地上、从天下消灭。”
