Isaiah 41:21-26
“ Present your case,” the Lord says.“ Bring forward your evidence,” The King of Jacob says.Let them bring them forward and declare to us what is going to take place; As for the former events, declare what they were, So that we may consider them and know their outcome. Or announce to us what is coming;Declare the things that are going to come afterward, So that we may know that you are gods; Indeed, do good or evil, that we may be afraid and fear together.Behold, you are less than nothing, And your work is less than nothing! He who chooses you is an abomination.“ I have put one from the north into motion, and he has come; From the rising of the sun he will call on My name; And he will come upon rulers as upon mortar, As the potter treads on clay.”Who has declared this from the beginning, that we might know? Or from former times, that we may say,“ He is right!”? There was no one at all who declared, There was no one at all who proclaimed, There was no one at all who heard your words.

And you are My witnesses. Is there any God besides Me, Or is there any other Rock? But if it is disagreeable in your sight to serve the Lord, choose for yourselves today whom you will serve: whether the gods which your fathers served, which were beyond the Euphrates River, or the gods of the Amorites in whose land you are living; but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.”The people answered and said,“ Far be it from us that we would abandon the Lord to serve other gods;for the Lord our God is He who brought us and our fathers up out of the land of Egypt, from the house of slaves, and did these great signs in our sight and watched over us through all the way in which we went and among all the peoples through whose midst we passed. The Lord drove out from before us all the peoples, even the Amorites who lived in the land. We also will serve the Lord, for He is our God.”Then Joshua said to the people,“ You will not be able to serve the Lord, for He is a holy God. He is a jealous God; He will not forgive your wrongdoing or your sins.If you abandon the Lord and serve foreign gods, then He will turn and do you harm and destroy you after He has done good to you.”And the people said to Joshua,“ No, but we will serve the Lord.”So Joshua said to the people,“ You are witnesses against yourselves that you have chosen for yourselves the Lord, to serve Him.” And they said,“ We are witnesses.”“ Now then, do away with the foreign gods which are in your midst, and incline your hearts to the Lord, the God of Israel.”And the people said to Joshua,“ We will serve the Lord our God and obey His voice.”
