他手裏拿着行杖，又在谿谷中挑選了五個光滑的石子，放在他所有的牧人口袋裏，就是在一個囊裏；他手中又拿着他的甩石機弦，就湊上前去迎着那非利士人。那非利士人也走着走着，越來越走近大衛；有拿着大盾牌的在他前面。那非利士人直望着；他見了大衛，就藐視他，因為他年輕，臉色赤紅，容貌美麗。那非利士人對大衛說：『難道我是狗，你才拿着行杖到我這裏來啊？』那非利士人就指着自己的神來咒詛大衛。

便哈達又差遣人來見亞哈說：『撒瑪利亞的塵土若夠跟從我的人每人捧一捧的，願神明這樣懲罰我，並且加倍地懲罰。』

因為他說：『我所作的是靠我手的能力、和我的智慧；因為我很聰明；我挪移了別族之民的地界，搶掠了他們的準備庫，我像勇士使他們的居民低落。我的手抓到了別族之民的資財，好像人抓到鳥窩；我取得了全地，好像人拾取了被遺棄的雀蛋一樣；卻沒有動一動翅膀的，或是開一開口啁啾一聲的。』

恩待我們，永恆主啊，恩待我們；因為我們飽受了藐視到極點。我們飽受了安逸人的嗤笑，驕傲人的藐視，到了極點。

有人靠着車，有人靠着馬，但我們卻靠着我們的上帝永恆主的名而剛強他們都屈身仆倒，我們卻起來，恢復原狀。

他說：『他們若是為講和而出來的，要活捉着他們；若是為交戰而出來的，也要活捉着他們。』

他在他的族弟兄和撒瑪利亞的軍兵面前說：『嘿！這些衰弱憔悴的猶大人要作甚麼？他們要奮不顧身麼？要宰獻祭牲動工麼？要在一天之內就作完麼？他們要從塵土廢堆中拿火燒過的石頭把它重新建造起來麼？』亞捫人多比雅在參巴拉旁邊，他也說：『哼！這些人所修造的、就是一隻狐狸上去，也會把這些石牆跐個破口的！』我們的上帝啊，求你垂聽我們怎樣地被藐視；求你使他們的毁謗回到他們自己的頭上，使他們在被擄之地作為被掠之物。不要遮掩他們的罪孽，不要將他們的罪從你面前塗抹掉；因為他們在修造的人面前惹你發怒。

又將永恆主殿裏和王宮府庫裏所見的一切金銀、一切器皿、都拿走，又拿了人去做質當，回撒瑪利亞去。
