Then the Rabshakeh stood and called out with a loud voice in Hebrew, and said,“ Hear the words of the great king, the king of Assyria!

The chief adviser then stood there and called out loudly in the Judahite dialect,“ Listen to the message of the great king, the king of Assyria.

They have closed their unfeeling hearts, With their mouths they speak proudly.They have now surrounded us in our steps; They set their eyes to cast us down to the ground.He is like a lion that is eager to tear, And as a young lion lurking in secret places.Arise, Lord, confront him, make him bow down; Save my soul from the wicked with Your sword,

And Rabshakeh said to them,“ Say now to Hezekiah,‘ This is what the great king, the king of Assyria says:“ What is this confidence that you have?

Now I, Nebuchadnezzar, praise, exalt, and honor the King of heaven, for all His works are true and His ways just; and He is able to humble those who walk in pride.”

Then Rabshakeh stood up and shouted with a loud voice in Judean, saying,“ Hear the word of the great king, the king of Assyria!This is what the king says:‘ Do not let Hezekiah deceive you, for he will not be able to save you from my hand.And do not let Hezekiah lead you to trust in the Lord by saying,“ The Lord will certainly save us, and this city will not be handed over to the king of Assyria.”Do not listen to Hezekiah, for this is what the king of Assyria says:“ Make your peace with me and come out to me, and eat, each one, from his vine and each from his fig tree, and drink, each one, the waters of his own cistern,until I come and take you to a land like your own land, a land of grain and new wine, a land of bread and vineyards, a land of olive trees producing oil, and of honey, so that you will live and not die.” But do not listen to Hezekiah, because he misleads you by saying,“ The Lord will save us.”

For it says,“ Are not my officers all kings?Is not Calno like Carchemish, Or Hamath like Arpad, Or Samaria like Damascus?As my hand has reached to the kingdoms of the idols, Whose carved images were greater than those of Jerusalem and Samaria,Shall I not do the same to Jerusalem and her images Just as I have done to Samaria and her idols?”So it will be that when the Lord has completed all His work on Mount Zion and on Jerusalem, He will say,“ I will punish the fruit of the arrogant heart of the king of Assyria and the arrogant pride of his eyes.”For he has said,“ By the power of my hand and by my wisdom I did this, Because I have understanding; And I removed the boundaries of the peoples And plundered their treasures, And like a powerful man I brought down their inhabitants,

I said,“ You are gods, And all of you are sons of the Most High.Nevertheless you will die like men, And fall like one of the princes.”

Behold, Assyria was a cedar in Lebanon With beautiful branches and forest shade, And very high, And its top was among the clouds.The waters made it grow, the deep made it high. With its rivers it continually extended all around its planting place, And sent out its channels to all the trees of the field.Therefore its height was loftier than all the trees of the field And its boughs became many and its branches long Because of many waters as it spread them out.All the birds of the sky nested in its twigs, And under its branches all the animals of the field gave birth, And all great nations lived under its shade.So it was beautiful in its greatness, in the length of its branches; For its roots extended to many waters.The cedars in God’s garden could not match it; The junipers could not compare with its branches, And the plane trees could not match its branches. No tree in God’s garden could compare with it in its beauty.I made it beautiful with the multitude of its branches, And all the trees of Eden, which were in the garden of God, were jealous of it.‘ Therefore this is what the Lord God says:“ Because it is tall in stature and has put its top among the clouds, and its heart is haughty in its loftiness,

Now therefore, behold, the Lord is about to bring on them the strong and abundant waters of the Euphrates River, That is, the king of Assyria and all his glory; And it will rise over all its channels and go over all its banks.

He stood and shouted to the ranks of Israel and said to them,“ Why do you come out to draw up in battle formation? Am I not the Philistine, and you the servants of Saul? Choose a man as your representative and have him come down to me.If he is able to fight me and kill me, then we will become your servants; but if I prevail against him and kill him, then you shall become our servants and serve us.”Then the Philistine said,“ I have defied the ranks of Israel this day! Give me a man, so that we may fight together.”When Saul and all Israel heard these words of the Philistine, they were dismayed and very fearful.

They mock and wickedly speak of oppression; They speak from on high.They have set their mouth against the heavens, And their tongue parades through the earth.
