But the royal spokesman replied,“ Has my master sent me to speak these words to your master and to you, and not to the men who are sitting on the wall, who are destined with you to eat their own excrement and drink their own urine?”

拉伯沙基说：“我主差遣我来，岂是单对你和你的主说这些话吗？不也是对这些坐在城上、要与你们一同吃自己粪喝自己尿的人说吗？”

将军说：“我主差遣我来，岂是单对你和你的主人说这些话吗？不也是对这些坐在城墙上，要与你们一同吃自己粪、喝自己尿的人说的吗？”

将军说：“我主差遣我来，岂是单对你和你的主人说这些话吗？不也是对这些坐在城墙上，要与你们一同吃自己粪、喝自己尿的人说的吗？”

亚述的将军却说：“难道我主派我来只对希西迦和你们说这些话吗？不也是对城墙上的人说吗？他们和你们一样都要吃自己的粪，喝自己的尿。”

但拉伯沙基说：“我主差派我来，只是对你和你的主说这些话吗？不也是对那些坐在城墙上，要和你们一同吃自己的粪、喝自己的尿的人说吗？”

将军却说：“难道我的主人派我来，只对你和你的主人说这些话吗？不也对那些坐在城墙上，将与你们一同吃自己粪、喝自己尿的人说话吗？”

拉伯沙基說：「我主差遣我來，豈是單對你和你的主說這些話嗎？不也是對這些坐在城上、要與你們一同吃自己糞喝自己尿的人說嗎？」

將軍說：「我主差遣我來，豈是單對你和你的主人說這些話嗎？不也是對這些坐在城牆上，要與你們一同吃自己糞、喝自己尿的人說的嗎？」

將軍說：「我主差遣我來，豈是單對你和你的主人說這些話嗎？不也是對這些坐在城牆上，要與你們一同吃自己糞、喝自己尿的人說的嗎？」

亞述的將軍卻說：「難道我主派我來只對希西迦和你們說這些話嗎？不也是對城牆上的人說嗎？他們和你們一樣都要吃自己的糞，喝自己的尿。」

但拉伯沙基說：“我主差派我來，只是對你和你的主說這些話嗎？不也是對那些坐在城牆上，要和你們一同吃自己的糞、喝自己的尿的人說嗎？”

參謀長對他們說：『我主上差遣我來說這些話，豈是單單對你主上和你說的呢？不也是對這些坐在城上、要和你們一同喫自己糞喝自己尿的人說的麼？』

將軍卻說：「難道我的主人派我來，只對你和你的主人說這些話嗎？不也對那些坐在城牆上，將與你們一同吃自己糞、喝自己尿的人說話嗎？」

拉伯沙基曰、我主遣我、豈以此言僅告爾主及爾乎、非亦告坐於城上、將同爾食己矢、飲己溺之人乎、

臘沙基曰、我主遣我、不第與爾、及爾主言也、亦使我與城上之民言、使彼及爾、自啖其遺溺、

拉伯沙基曰、我主王遣我、豈使我以此言僅告爾主王與爾乎、非使我告坐於城上之民、將偕爾食己糞飲己溺者乎、

But the commander replied,“ Was it only to your master and you that my master sent me to say these things, and not to the people sitting on the wall— who, like you, will have to eat their own excrement and drink their own urine?”

But the commander replied,“ My master sent me to say these things. Are these words only for your master and you to hear? Aren’t they also for the people sitting on the wall? They are going to suffer just like you. They’ll have to eat their own waste. They’ll have to drink their own urine.”

But the Rabshakeh said,“ Has my master sent me to speak these words to your master and to you, and not to the men sitting on the wall, who are doomed with you to eat their own dung and drink their own urine?”

But Sennacherib’s chief of staff replied,“ Do you think my master sent this message only to you and your master? He wants all the people to hear it, for when we put this city under siege, they will suffer along with you. They will be so hungry and thirsty that they will eat their own dung and drink their own urine.”

But Rabshakeh said,“ Has my master sent me only to your master and to you to speak these words, and not to the men who sit on the wall, doomed to eat their own dung and drink their own urine with you?”

But the Rabshakeh said,“ Has my master sent me to your master and to you to speak these words, and not to the men who sit on the wall, who will eat and drink their own waste with you?”

But Rabshakeh said, Hath my master sent me to thy master, and to thee, to speak these words? hath he not sent me to the men that sit upon the wall, to eat their own dung, and to drink their own water with you?

But the Rabshakeh replied,“ Has my master sent me to speak these words to your master and to you, and not to the men who are sitting on the wall, who are destined with you to eat their own excrement and drink their own urine?”

But Rabshakeh said, Hath my master sent me to thy master and to thee to speak these words?[ hath he] not[ sent me] to the men that sit upon the wall, that they may eat their own dung, and drink their own piss with you?

But the chief adviser said,“ My master did not send me to speak these words only to your master and to you. His message is also for the men who sit on the wall, for they will eat their own excrement and drink their own urine along with you!”

But Rabshakeh said,“ Has my master sent me only to your master and to you, to speak these words, and not to the men who sit on the wall, who will eat their own dung and drink their own urine with you?”

But the royal spokesman said to them,“ Has my master sent me to speak these words only to your master and to you? Hasn’t he also sent me to the men who sit on the wall, destined with you to eat their own excrement and drink their own urine?”

They carve meat on the right, but they are still hungry; they have eaten on the left, but they are still not satisfied. Each one eats the flesh of his arm.

“ You will eat your offspring, the flesh of your sons and daughters the LORD your God has given you during the siege and hardship your enemy imposes on you.The most sensitive and refined man among you will look grudgingly at his brother, the wife he embraces, and the rest of his children,refusing to share with any of them his children’s flesh that he will eat because he has nothing left during the siege and hardship your enemy imposes on you in all your towns.The most sensitive and refined woman among you, who would not venture to set the sole of her foot on the ground because of her refinement and sensitivity, will begrudge the husband she embraces, her son, and her daughter,the afterbirth that comes out from between her legs and the children she bears, because she will secretly eat them for lack of anything else during the siege and hardship your enemy imposes on you within your city gates.

Those slain by the sword are better off than those slain by hunger, who waste away, pierced with pain because the fields lack produce.The hands of compassionate women have cooked their own children; they became their food during the destruction of my dear people.

He said to me,“ Son of man, I am going to cut off the supply of bread in Jerusalem. They will anxiously eat food they have weighed out and in dread drink rationed water

So there was a severe famine in Samaria, and they continued the siege against it until a donkey’s head sold for thirty-four ounces of silver, and a cup of dove’s dung sold for two ounces of silver.As the king of Israel was passing by on the wall, a woman cried out to him,“ My lord the king, help!”He answered,“ If the LORD doesn’t help you, where can I get help for you? From the threshing floor or the winepress?”Then the king asked her,“ What’s the matter?” She said,“ This woman said to me,‘ Give up your son, and we will eat him today. Then we will eat my son tomorrow.’So we boiled my son and ate him, and I said to her the next day,‘ Give up your son, and we will eat him,’ but she has hidden her son.”

You will eat the flesh of your sons; you will eat the flesh of your daughters.

I will make them eat the flesh of their sons and their daughters, and they will eat each other’s flesh in the distressing siege inflicted on them by their enemies who intend to take their life.’
