In the fourteenth year of King Hezekiah’s reign, Sennacherib king of Assyria attacked all the fortified cities of Judah and captured them.

Now therefore, behold, the Lord bringeth up upon them the waters of the river, strong and many,[ even] the king of Assyria, and all his glory: and he shall come up over all his channels, and go over all his banks:And he shall pass through Judah; he shall overflow and go over, he shall reach[ even] to the neck; and the stretching out of his wings shall fill the breadth of thy land, O Immanuel.

The LORD shall bring upon thee, and upon thy people, and upon thy father’s house, days that have not come, from the day that Ephraim departed from Judah;[ even] the king of Assyria.

Behold, their valiant ones shall cry without: the ambassadors of peace shall weep bitterly.The highways lie waste, the wayfaring man ceaseth: he hath broken the covenant, he hath despised the cities, he regardeth no man.

He is come to Aiath, he is passed to Migron; at Michmash he hath laid up his carriages:They are gone over the passage: they have taken up their lodging at Geba; Ramah is afraid; Gibeah of Saul is fled.Lift up thy voice, O daughter of Gallim: cause it to be heard unto Laish, O poor Anathoth.Madmenah is removed; the inhabitants of Gebim gather themselves to flee.As yet shall he remain at Nob that day: he shall shake his hand[ against] the mount of the daughter of Zion, the hill of Jerusalem.

Your country[ is] desolate, your cities[ are] burned with fire: your land, strangers devour it in your presence, and[ it is] desolate, as overthrown by strangers.And the daughter of Zion is left as a cottage in a vineyard, as a lodge in a garden of cucumbers, as a besieged city.
