巴比倫素來為列國的榮耀，為迦勒底人所矜誇的華美，必像神所傾覆的所多瑪、蛾摩拉一樣。其內必永無人煙，世世代代無人居住。阿拉伯人也不在那裏支搭帳棚；牧羊的人也不使羊羣臥在那裏。只有曠野的走獸臥在那裏；咆哮的獸滿了房屋。鴕鳥住在那裏；野山羊在那裏跳舞。豺狼必在它宮中呼號；野狗必在它華美殿內吼叫。巴比倫受罰的時候臨近；它的日子必不長久。

鵜鶘、箭豬卻要得為業；貓頭鷹、烏鴉要住在其間。耶和華必將空虛的準繩，混沌的線鉈，拉在其上。以東人要召貴冑來治國；那裏卻無一個，首領也都歸於無有。以東的宮殿要長荊棘；保障要長蒺藜和刺草；要作野狗的住處，鴕鳥的居所。曠野的走獸要和豺狼相遇；野山羊要與伴偶對叫。夜間的怪物必在那裏棲身，自找安歇之處。箭蛇要在那裏做窩，下蛋，菢蛋，生子，聚子在其影下；鷂鷹各與伴偶聚集在那裏。你們要查考宣讀耶和華的書。這都無一缺少，無一沒有伴偶；因為我的口已經吩咐，他的靈將牠們聚集。他也為牠們拈鬮，又親手用準繩給牠們分地；牠們必永得為業，世世代代住在其間。

我就說：「主啊，這到幾時為止呢？」他說：直到城邑荒涼，無人居住，房屋空閒無人，地土極其荒涼。

我耳聞萬軍之耶和華說：必有許多又大又美的房屋成為荒涼，無人居住。

用火焚燒耶和華的殿和王宮，又焚燒耶路撒冷的房屋，就是各大戶家的房屋。

看哪，耶和華使地空虛，變為荒涼；又翻轉大地，將居民分散。那時百姓怎樣，祭司也怎樣；僕人怎樣，主人也怎樣；婢女怎樣，主母也怎樣；買物的怎樣，賣物的也怎樣；放債的怎樣，借債的也怎樣；取利的怎樣，出利的也怎樣。地必全然空虛，盡都荒涼；因為這話是耶和華說的。
