看啊，耶和华从远方来，伴着滚滚浓烟，祂的怒气如烈火，话语充满愤怒，舌头好像烈焰。祂的气息像淹到人颈项的洪流。祂必像筛子一样筛列国，毁灭他们，并把嚼环放在列邦口中，引他们走上歧途。但你们必欢唱，好像晚上庆祝节期；你们必充满喜乐，好像人们吹着笛子登耶和华的山、到以色列磐石那里。耶和华必使人听见祂威严的声音，在愤怒、烈焰、暴雨、雷轰和冰雹中让人看见祂降罚的臂膀。亚述人听见耶和华的声音必心惊胆战，祂必用杖击打他们。耶和华的刑杖每责打他们一下，祂的子民必击鼓弹琴。祂必在战场上挥手击打他们。焚烧之地——陀斐特早已为亚述王预备好了，那里又宽又深，堆着许多木柴，耶和华的气必如同一股硫磺火点燃那些木柴。

主完成在锡安山和耶路撒冷要做的事后，必惩罚心里狂妄、眼目高傲的亚述王。

看啊，主——万军之耶和华要以大能削去树枝。高大的树必被斩断，挺拔的大树必被砍倒，茂密的树林必被铁斧砍掉，连黎巴嫩的大树也要倒在全能的上帝面前。

但我要怜悯犹大家，使他们依靠他们的上帝耶和华得到拯救，而不是依靠战弓、刀剑、马匹、骑兵和战争。”

我必惊动亚述王的心，让他听见风声后便返回本国，使他在那里死于刀下。’”
