人喜涉訟、不懷公義、不尚真實、譸張為幻、藏於中者詭譎、行於外者邪慝。

掃羅曰、今日耶和華救以色列族、毋行殺戮。

約書亞曰、我主耶和華與、曷導斯民濟約但、付於亞摩哩人手、使我危亡乎。不如我仍居約但東為幸。主乎、以色列族敗北、我何言哉。迦南人、與斯土居民、聞之必環而攻我、滅我名於地、然爾名維大、如何使人尊崇。

民謂掃羅曰、今日蒙上帝所祐、約拿單大救以色列族、欲致之死、斷乎不可、我儕指耶和華以誓、其首之一髮、必不隕地、於是約拿單為民所援、免於死亡。
