錫安啊，因為我用血跟你立了約，我必將你中間被擄的人從無水之坑釋放出來。

但這些百姓飽受劫掠，都被困在坑中，囚在監內。他們淪為俘虜，無人搭救；被當作戰利品擄走，無人追回。

於是，他們拿住耶利米，用繩子把他縋到王子瑪基雅的蓄水池裡。那池子在護衛兵的院子裡，池中沒有水，只有淤泥。耶利米就陷在淤泥中。那時，王正坐在便雅憫門口。宮廷侍臣古實人以伯·米勒聽說他們把耶利米囚在蓄水池裡，便從王宮跑去對王說：「我主我王啊！這些人對耶利米先知太狠毒了。他們把他丟在蓄水池裡，他必餓死在那裡，因為城中絕糧了。」於是，王吩咐古實人以伯·米勒率領三十人，在耶利米先知未死之前把他從池中救出來。以伯·米勒帶著他的手下進入王宮，從庫房下面的房間拿了些碎布和破衣，用繩索縋到池底給耶利米，讓他把這些碎布和破衣墊在腋下，以免被繩索勒傷。耶利米就照做了。他們便把耶利米從池中拉上來拘留在護衛兵的院子裡。

世人啊！恐怖、陷阱和網羅要臨到你們。

那五王逃進瑪基大的山洞裡，躲藏起來。有人告訴約書亞那五個王藏在瑪基大的山洞裡，

耶和華使大地震動的時候，眾人躲進岩穴，藏入地洞，逃避祂的憤怒和威榮。

再過多日，你必被徵召出戰。在以後的歲月，你將去攻打一片從戰爭中恢復的土地，以色列久已荒涼的山上有從各國招聚來的百姓。他們從列國中被領回來，如今都在那裡安然居住。

約書亞說：「打開洞口，把裡面的五個王押出來見我。」眾人便把耶路撒冷王、希伯崙王、耶末王、拉吉王、伊磯倫王從洞裡押出來，帶到約書亞面前。約書亞召來全體以色列人，然後對那些跟他一起出征的將領說：「你們上前來，用腳踏在這些王的頸上。」各將領便照著約書亞的吩咐做了。約書亞對他們說：「你們不要害怕，也不要驚慌，應該剛強勇敢，因為耶和華要使你們所有的仇敵都落此下場。」隨後約書亞將這五個王殺死，把屍體分別掛在五棵樹上，直到傍晚。

你們將不是被擄就是被殺。雖然如此，耶和華的怒氣還沒有止息，祂降罰的手沒有收回。
