“ They sow the wind and reap the whirlwind. The stalk has no head; it will produce no flour. Were it to yield grain, foreigners would swallow it up.

永恆主不輕易發怒，而是大有能力；永恆主絕不以有罪的為無罪。他所行的路乃在狂風暴雨中，雲彩是他腳下的飛塵。

外族人吞喫了他的力量，他卻不知道；斑白頭髮散布他頭上，他也不覺得。

『因為你看吧，永恆主必乘着火來臨，他的車輦如同旋風；他必用他怒氣之猛烈施報應，用火燄行他的叱責。

他怎樣來，他也準準怎樣地去：這也是一宗大禍患：他為了風而勞碌、有甚麼益處呢？又儘他一生的日子都在黑暗和悲哀中，多有煩惱，又有病症嘔氣，有甚麼益處？

因此到了收割時候、我必收回我的五穀；到了出酒季節、我必取回我的新酒；我必奪回我的羊毛、我的麻、就是可用來遮其赤體之物。

你土地上的果實、你勞碌得來的、你不認識的族民必喫盡它；你只是日日不斷地受欺壓受壓制；

你們要為自己播種義氣，要收割忠愛之果子，要耙鬆你們的休耕地；因為現在正是尋永恆主的時候，等他臨到，下義氣之雨在你們身上。你們耕種的是邪惡，收割的是橫暴，喫的是謊話之果子；因為你倚靠你的戰車，你仰賴你勇士之眾多，

你雖在栽的日子設法使它長大，在種的晨光培養它開花，但在憂患的日子、無法醫治的傷痛之時、所收割的都飛走了。

亞述王普勒都常來攻打以色列地；米拿現給了普勒一千擔銀子、請普勒一手幫助、來鞏固國權於手中。

他們種的是麥，收割的是荊棘；累壞了，也無益處；因永恆主的烈怒、他們必為自己的出產而失望。』

於是永恆主向以色列人發怒，不斷地將他們交在亞蘭王哈薛手裏、交在哈薛的兒子便哈達手裏。約哈斯求永恆主的情面，永恆主就聽他，因為見以色列人所受的壓迫，見亞蘭王怎樣地壓迫他們。（永恆主賜給以色列人一位拯救者，使他們從亞蘭人手下擺脫出來，所以以色列人仍像素常一樣、安居在家裏。然而他們不離開耶羅波安的家的罪、耶羅波安使以色列人犯的那罪，他們仍然直行；並且在撒瑪利亞仍有亞舍拉神木立着。）因此亞蘭王不給約哈斯留下別的，只留下五十匹駿馬、十輛戰車、一萬步兵；因為亞蘭王殺滅了他們，使他們像塵土被踐踏。

每逢以色列人播種之後，米甸人總上來，亞瑪力人和東方人也都上來、攻打他們，對着他們紮營，損毁地上的土產，直至你到了迦薩，都沒有剩下養生之物在以色列中；牛、羊、驢、都沒有剩下；因為那些人總帶着他們的牲畜和帳棚上來，來得像蝗蟲那麼多，人和駱駝無數，都進境內、來損毁它。以色列人因米甸人的緣故就降到極卑微的地步；以色列人便向永恆主哀呼。

當以色列王比加在位的日子、亞述王提革拉毘列色來奪取以雲、亞伯伯瑪迦、亞挪、基低斯、夏瑣、基列、加利利、和拿弗他利全地；使這些地方的居民都流亡到亞述去。
