In the womb he grasped his brother’s heel; as a man he struggled with God.

隨後，以掃的弟弟也出生，他的手抓住以掃的腳跟，因此給他起名叫雅各。兩個兒子出生時，以撒六十歲。

只剩下雅各一人。有一個人來和他摔跤，直到黎明。那人見自己勝不過他，就摸了他的大腿窩一下。雅各的大腿窩就在和那人摔跤的時候扭了。那人說：「天快亮了，讓我走吧！」雅各說：「你不給我祝福，我就不讓你走。」那人說：「你叫甚麼名字？」他說：「雅各。」那人說：「你的名字不要再叫雅各，要叫以色列，因為你與神和人較力，都得勝了。」

雙胞胎還沒有生下來，善惡還沒有行出來，為要貫徹神揀選人的旨意，

所以，你們要彼此認罪，互相代求，使你們得醫治。義人祈禱所發的力量是大有功效的。以利亞與我們是同樣性情的人，他懇切地祈求不要下雨，地上就三年六個月沒有下雨。他又禱告，天就降下雨來，地就有了出產。
