And to whom was God speaking when he took an oath that they would never enter his rest? Wasn’t it the people who disobeyed him?

又向誰起誓，不容他們進入他的安息呢？豈不是向那些不信從的人嗎？

上帝起誓不准誰進入祂的安息呢？不就是那些不肯信從的人嗎？

他又向誰起誓說，他們絕對不可以進入他的安息呢？不就是向那些不順從的人嗎？

他向誰起誓說、他們必不得以進入他的安息呢？豈不是向那些硬不信從的人是向誰呢？

他又向誰起誓說，他們絕不能進入他的安息呢？難道不是向那些不肯信從的人嗎？

又誓之不得入其安息者誰耶、非不順從者乎、

上帝誓之、不許享其安息者誰、非不信之徒乎、

天主誓之、不許享其安息者誰、非違背違背或作不信之人乎、

天主所誓：「不令入吾安寧」者、又誰耶？非心懷狐疑之諸悖逆乎？

And to whom did God swear that they would never enter his rest if not to those who disobeyed?

God promised that those people would never enjoy the rest he planned for them. God gave his word when he made that promise. Didn’t he make that promise to those who didn’t obey?

And to whom did he swear that they would not enter his rest, but to those who were disobedient?

And to whom did he swear that they would not enter his rest, if not to those who disobeyed?

And to whom did He swear that they would not enter His rest, but to those who were disobedient?

And to whom did He swear that they would not enter His rest, but to those who did not obey?

And to whom sware he that they should not enter into his rest, but to them that were disobedient?

And who did He swear to that they would not enter His rest, if not those who disobeyed?

And to whom sware he that they should not enter into his rest, but to them that believed not?

And to whom did he swear they would never enter into his rest, except those who were disobedient?

To whom did he swear that they wouldn’t enter into his rest, but to those who were disobedient?

For this good news— that God has prepared this rest— has been announced to us just as it was to them. But it did them no good because they didn’t share the faith of those who listened to God.

“ When the Lord heard your complaining, he became very angry. So he solemnly swore,‘ Not one of you from this wicked generation will live to see the good land I swore to give your ancestors,

They will never even see the land I swore to give their ancestors. None of those who have treated me with contempt will ever see it.

So God’s rest is there for people to enter, but those who first heard this good news failed to enter because they disobeyed God.

You will not enter and occupy the land I swore to give you. The only exceptions will be Caleb son of Jephunneh and Joshua son of Nun.

And the Lord said to Moses,“ How long will these people treat me with contempt? Will they never believe me, even after all the miraculous signs I have done among them?

“ But you rebelled against the command of the Lord your God and refused to go in.You complained in your tents and said,‘ The Lord must hate us. That’s why he has brought us here from Egypt— to hand us over to the Amorites to be slaughtered.Where can we go? Our brothers have demoralized us with their report. They tell us,“ The people of the land are taller and more powerful than we are, and their towns are large, with walls rising high into the sky! We even saw giants there— the descendants of Anak!”’“ But I said to you,‘ Don’t be shocked or afraid of them!The Lord your God is going ahead of you. He will fight for you, just as you saw him do in Egypt.And you saw how the Lord your God cared for you all along the way as you traveled through the wilderness, just as a father cares for his child. Now he has brought you to this place.’“ But even after all he did, you refused to trust the Lord your God,

The people refused to enter the pleasant land, for they wouldn’t believe his promise to care for them.Instead, they grumbled in their tents and refused to obey the Lord.Therefore, he solemnly swore that he would kill them in the wilderness,

But the Lord said to Moses and Aaron,“ Because you did not trust me enough to demonstrate my holiness to the people of Israel, you will not lead them into the land I am giving them!”

And at Kadesh barnea the Lord sent you out with this command:‘ Go up and take over the land I have given you.’ But you rebelled against the command of the Lord your God and refused to put your trust in him or obey him.

So in my anger I took an oath:‘ They will never enter my place of rest.’”
