夫爾非至可捫火炎之山、及幽冥、昏暗、暴風、

爾所至者、非有形之山、在彼火焰靉靆、幽暗暴風、

爾所至者、非彼可捫之山、在彼有烈火、密雲、幽暗、暴風、

應知爾今所陟者、非一有形之山、其上有火焰靉靆、幽冥暴風。

You have not come to a mountain that can be touched and that is burning with fire; to darkness, gloom and storm;

You haven’t come to a mountain that can be touched. You haven’t come to a mountain burning with fire. You haven’t come to darkness, gloom and storm.

For you have not come to what may be touched, a blazing fire and darkness and gloom and a tempest

You have not come to a physical mountain, to a place of flaming fire, darkness, gloom, and whirlwind, as the Israelites did at Mount Sinai.

For you have not come to what could be touched, to a blazing fire, to darkness, gloom, and storm,

You came near and stood at the foot of the mountain while it blazed with fire to the very heavens, with black clouds and deep darkness. (niv)

When the people saw the thunder and lightning and heard the trumpet and saw the mountain in smoke, they trembled with fear. They stayed at a distance (niv)

These are the commandments the Lord proclaimed in a loud voice to your whole assembly there on the mountain from out of the fire, the cloud and the deep darkness; and he added nothing more. Then he wrote them on two stone tablets and gave them to me.When you heard the voice out of the darkness, while the mountain was ablaze with fire, all the leaders of your tribes and your elders came to me.And you said,“ The Lord our God has shown us his glory and his majesty, and we have heard his voice from the fire. Today we have seen that a person can live even if God speaks with them.But now, why should we die? This great fire will consume us, and we will die if we hear the voice of the Lord our God any longer.For what mortal has ever heard the voice of the living God speaking out of fire, as we have, and survived? To the Israelites the glory of the Lord looked like a consuming fire on top of the mountain. (niv)

For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self- discipline. (niv)

The Spirit you received does not make you slaves, so that you live in fear again; rather, the Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship. And by him we cry,“ Abba, Father.” (niv)

If the ministry that brought condemnation was glorious, how much more glorious is the ministry that brings righteousness! (niv)

Put limits for the people around the mountain and tell them,‘ Be careful that you do not approach the mountain or touch the foot of it. Whoever touches the mountain is to be put to death.They are to be stoned or shot with arrows; not a hand is to be laid on them. No person or animal shall be permitted to live.’ Only when the ram’s horn sounds a long blast may they approach the mountain.”After Moses had gone down the mountain to the people, he consecrated them, and they washed their clothes.Then he said to the people,“ Prepare yourselves for the third day. Abstain from sexual relations.”On the morning of the third day there was thunder and lightning, with a thick cloud over the mountain, and a very loud trumpet blast. Everyone in the camp trembled.Then Moses led the people out of the camp to meet with God, and they stood at the foot of the mountain.Mount Sinai was covered with smoke, because the Lord descended on it in fire. The smoke billowed up from it like smoke from a furnace, and the whole mountain trembled violently.As the sound of the trumpet grew louder and louder, Moses spoke and the voice of God answered him.The Lord descended to the top of Mount Sinai and called Moses to the top of the mountain. So Moses went upand the Lord said to him,“ Go down and warn the people so they do not force their way through to see the Lord and many of them perish.Even the priests, who approach the Lord, must consecrate themselves, or the Lord will break out against them.” (niv)

For sin shall no longer be your master, because you are not under the law, but under grace. (niv)
