因著信，他做為外人客居在應許之地，住在帳幕裡，與同一個應許的共同繼承人以撒、雅各一樣，

為旅於上帝許賜之地、猶在異邦、以撒雅各亦蒙上帝所許、與亞伯拉罕各居於幕、

彼有信而為旅於天主所許之地、如在異邦、居於幕、與後蒙應許之以撒雅各同、

復憑信德、而羇旅於承許之地、與共承恩諾之依灑格雅各伯同寓棚帳之中；

By faith he made his home in the promised land like a stranger in a foreign country; he lived in tents, as did Isaac and Jacob, who were heirs with him of the same promise.

Because of his faith he made his home in the land God had promised him. Abraham was like an outsider in a strange country. He lived there in tents. So did Isaac and Jacob. They received the same promise he did.

By faith he went to live in the land of promise, as in a foreign land, living in tents with Isaac and Jacob, heirs with him of the same promise.

And even when he reached the land God promised him, he lived there by faith— for he was like a foreigner, living in tents. And so did Isaac and Jacob, who inherited the same promise.

By faith he stayed as a foreigner in the land of promise, living in tents as did Isaac and Jacob, coheirs of the same promise.

By faith he lived as a stranger in the land of promise, as in a foreign land, living in tents with Isaac and Jacob, fellow heirs of the same promise;

By faith he dwelt in the land of promise as in a foreign country, dwelling in tents with Isaac and Jacob, the heirs with him of the same promise;

By faith he became a sojourner in the land of promise, as in a land not his own, dwelling in tents, with Isaac and Jacob, the heirs with him of the same promise:

By faith he stayed as a foreigner in the land of promise, living in tents with Isaac and Jacob, coheirs of the same promise.

By faith he sojourned in the land of promise, as[ in] a strange country, dwelling in tabernacles with Isaac and Jacob, the heirs with him of the same promise:

By faith he lived as a foreigner in the promised land as though it were a foreign country, living in tents with Isaac and Jacob, who were fellow heirs of the same promise.

By faith, he lived as an alien in the land of promise, as in a land not his own, dwelling in tents with Isaac and Jacob, the heirs with him of the same promise.

他又從那裡遷移到伯特利東邊的山地，並支搭帳篷；帳篷的西邊是伯特利，東邊是艾。他在那裡也為耶和華築了一座祭壇，呼求耶和華的名。

亞伯蘭遷移帳篷，來到希伯崙，在幔利的橡樹那裡居住，並在那裡為耶和華築了一座祭壇。

他們對亞伯拉罕說：「你的妻子撒拉在哪裡呢？」他說：「在帳篷裡！」

為此，神想要對那些繼承應許的人格外表明他的計劃是不能更改的，就用所起的誓來保證。

他從南地起程繼續往伯特利去，到了伯特利和艾之間，就是他先前支搭帳篷的地方，

看哪，耶和華站在梯子上方，說：「我是耶和華，你父親亞伯拉罕的神、以撒的神。我必把你現在躺臥之地，賜給你和你的後裔。你的後裔必如同地上的塵土；你必向東南西北擴展；地上萬族都必因你和你的後裔而蒙福。

雅各對約瑟說：「全能的神曾在迦南地的路斯向我顯現，並祝福了我，對我說：『看哪，我要使你繁衍增多，成為萬族之族；又要把這地賜給你的後裔作永遠的產業。』

雅各來到他父親以撒那裡，到了基列-阿爾巴的幔利，就是亞伯拉罕和以撒寄居的地方；基列-阿爾巴就是希伯崙。

在這裡，神並沒有賜給他繼業，連立足的地方也沒有。可是神應許要把這地賜給他和他的後裔為業。當時，亞伯拉罕還沒有孩子。神這樣說：『他的後裔要在他人之地做寄居的，那裡的人要奴役、虐待他們四百年。

於是亞伯拉罕趕快進入帳篷，到撒拉那裡，說：「快拿三細亞上等的麵粉，揉好做餅！」

後來耶和華在幔利的橡樹那裡向亞伯拉罕顯現。那時是白天最熱的時候，亞伯拉罕正坐在帳篷的入口。他舉目觀看，看哪，有三個人在他對面站著！他一看見，就從帳篷的入口跑去迎接他們，俯伏於地，

我必把你現在的寄居之地，就是迦南全地，賜給你和你的後裔作永遠的產業；我也必作他們的神。」

你要寄居在這地，我必與你同在，並祝福你，因為我必把所有這些地都賜給你和你的後裔；我必確立我向你父親亞伯拉罕所起的誓。我必使你的後裔增多，如同天上的星辰，我必把所有這些地都賜給你的後裔；地上萬國都必因你的後裔而蒙福，

「我在你們中間是寄居者，是客旅；請把你們中間的一塊地產給我作墳地，好讓我把死者從我身旁移去安葬。」

願神把亞伯拉罕所得的祝福賜給你和你的後裔，使你擁有你所寄居之地，就是神所賜給亞伯拉罕的。」

兩個孩子漸漸長大，以掃成為一個打獵能手，常在田野；而雅各是一個安靜的人，常在帳篷裡。
