後來，法老命令全埃及的人把以色列人生的所有男嬰都拋進尼羅河裡，只讓女嬰活著。

「你們在替希伯來婦女接生的時候，如果看到生下的是男嬰，就把他殺掉；如果是女嬰，就讓她活下來。」

那時，摩西出生了，他長得俊美非凡。他的父母在家裡偷偷地撫養了他三個月，

那女子懷孕，生了一個男嬰。她看見孩子可愛，就把他藏了三個月。後來無法再藏下去，她就拿來一個蒲草籃子，外面塗上防水的瀝青和柏油，然後把嬰兒放在裡面，又把籃子放在尼羅河邊的蘆葦叢中。嬰兒的姐姐遠遠地站著，要看看她的弟弟究竟會怎樣。這時，法老的女兒來到河邊沐浴，宮女們在河邊行走。公主發現了蘆葦叢中的籃子，便吩咐一個婢女去把它取來。公主打開一看，原來是一個男嬰。公主看見孩子在哭，就可憐他，說：「他是希伯來人的孩子。」嬰兒的姐姐對公主說：「我去找一個希伯來婦女當奶媽，為你哺養他好嗎？」公主回答說：「好！」那女孩就跑去把嬰孩的母親帶來。公主對那婦女說：「你把孩子抱去，替我哺養他，我會給你工錢。」她便把孩子抱去哺養。孩子漸漸長大，她便把他帶到公主那裡，孩子就做了公主的兒子。公主給孩子取名叫摩西，意思是「我把他從水中拉了上來」。

「朋友們，我告訴你們，不要懼怕那些殺害人的身體後再也無計可施的人。我告訴你們應該懼怕誰，要懼怕上帝——祂有權終結人的生命，並把人丟在地獄裡。是的，我告訴你們，要懼怕祂！

「如蛆如蟲的雅各啊，以色列人啊，不要怕！我耶和華必幫助你。以色列的聖者是你的救贖主。

那些只能殺害身體，不能毀滅靈魂的人，不用怕他們。但要畏懼那位有權將身體和靈魂一同毀滅在地獄裡的上帝。

有耶和華與我同在，我必不懼怕，人能把我怎麼樣？

這樣，我們可以放膽地說：「主是我的幫助，我必不懼怕，人能把我怎麼樣？」

我是你的上帝，我必與你同在，你不用驚慌也不用害怕。我必賜你力量，幫助你，用我公義的右手扶持你。』

沙得拉、米煞、亞伯尼歌答道：「尼布甲尼撒啊，我們無需為此事回答你。王啊，我們若真被扔進烈焰熊熊的火窯，我們所事奉的上帝必能救我們脫離火窯，祂必從你手中救我們。即或不然，王啊，你要明白，我們也不會事奉你的神明或祭拜你立的金像。」

但以理知道王簽署禁令後，就回到家裡。他樓上的窗戶朝向耶路撒冷，他像往常一樣每日三次跪下向上帝禱告、感恩。

耶和華說：「安慰你們的是我，是我。你為什麼要害怕難逃一死、生命如草芥的世人呢？

我讚美上帝的應許，我信靠祂，就不懼怕，區區世人能把我怎樣？

認識公義、銘記我訓誨的人啊，聽我說。你們不要害怕人的辱罵，也不要畏懼他們的譭謗。

「他們認為是陰謀的，你們不要認為是陰謀。他們所怕的，你們不要怕，也不要畏懼。你們當尊萬軍之耶和華為聖，當敬畏祂，畏懼祂。
