「為自己的家積蓄不義之財、在高處搭窩躲避災禍的人啊，你們有禍了！

為自己的家積蓄着不義的臭錢，去在高處搭窩，指望着安穩、免受災禍之掌握的、有禍啊！

獲不義之財、以富其家、營巢於高處、以避凶暴之手、其人禍哉、

“ Woe to him who builds his house by unjust gain, setting his nest on high to escape the clutches of ruin!

“ How terrible it will be for the Babylonians! They build their kingdom with money that they gained by cheating others. They have tried to make the kingdom as secure as possible. After all, they did not want to be destroyed.

“ Woe to him who gets evil gain for his house, to set his nest on high, to be safe from the reach of harm!

“ What sorrow awaits you who build big houses with money gained dishonestly! You believe your wealth will buy security, putting your family’s nest beyond the reach of danger.

Woe to him who dishonestly makes wealth for his house to place his nest on high, to escape the grasp of disaster!

“ Woe to him who covets evil gain for his house, That he may set his nest on high, That he may be delivered from the power of disaster!

Woe to him that getteth an evil gain for his house, that he may set his nest on high, that he may be delivered from the hand of evil!

Woe to him who dishonestly makes wealth for his house to place his nest on high, to escape from the reach of disaster!

Woe to him that coveteth an evil covetousness to his house, that he may set his nest on high, that he may be delivered from the power of evil!

The one who builds his house by unjust gain is as good as dead. He does this so he can build his nest way up high and escape the clutches of disaster.

Woe to him who gets an evil gain for his house, that he may set his nest on high, that he may be delivered from the hand of evil!

As for the terror you cause, The arrogance of your heart has deceived you, You who live in the clefts of the rock, Who occupy the height of the hill. Though you make your nest as high as an eagle’s, I will bring you down from there,” declares the Lord.

Then I raised my eyes again and looked, and behold, there was a flying scroll.And he said to me,“ What do you see?” And I said,“ I see a flying scroll; its length is twenty cubits, and its width ten cubits.”Then he said to me,“ This is the curse that is going forth over the face of the entire land; everyone who steals certainly will be purged away according to the writing on one side, and everyone who swears falsely will be purged away according to the writing on the other side.I will make it go forth,” declares the Lord of armies,“ and it will enter the house of the thief and the house of the one who swears falsely by My name; and it will spend the night within that house and destroy it with its timber and stones.”

But Gehazi, the servant of Elisha the man of God, thought,“ Behold, my master has spared this Naaman the Aramean, by not accepting from his hand what he brought. As the Lord lives, I will run after him and take something from him.”So Gehazi pursued Naaman. When Naaman saw someone running after him, he came down from the chariot to meet him and said,“ Is everything well?”And he said,“ Everything is well. My master has sent me, saying,‘ Behold, just now two young men of the sons of the prophets have come to me from the hill country of Ephraim. Please give them a talent of silver and two changes of clothes.’ ”Naaman said,“ Be sure to take two talents.” And he urged him, and tied up two talents of silver in two bags with two changes of clothes, and gave them to two of his servants; and they carried them before him.When he came to the hill, he took them from their hand and deposited them in the house, and he sent the men away, and they departed.But he went in and stood before his master. And Elisha said to him,“ Where have you been, Gehazi?” And he said,“ Your servant went nowhere.”Then he said to him,“ Did my heart not go with you, when the man turned from his chariot to meet you? Is it a time to accept money and to accept clothes, olive groves, vineyards, sheep, oxen, and male and female slaves?Therefore, the leprosy of Naaman shall cling to you and to your descendants forever.” So he went out from his presence afflicted with leprosy, as white as snow.

when I saw among the spoils a beautiful robe from Shinar, two hundred shekels of silver, and a bar of gold fifty shekels in weight, then I wanted them and took them; and behold, they are hidden in the ground inside my tent, with the silver underneath.”So Joshua sent messengers, and they ran to the tent; and behold, it was hidden in his tent with the silver underneath it.So they took them from inside the tent and brought them to Joshua and to all the sons of Israel; and they laid them out before the Lord.Then Joshua, and all Israel with him, took Achan the son of Zerah, the silver, the robe, the bar of gold, his sons, his daughters, his oxen, his donkeys, his sheep, his tent, and all that belonged to him; and they brought them up to the Valley of Achor.And Joshua said,“ Why have you brought disaster on us? The Lord will bring disaster on you this day.” And all Israel stoned them with stones; and they burned them with fire after they had stoned them with stones.Then they erected over him a large heap of stones that stands to this day, and the Lord turned from the fierceness of His anger. Therefore the name of that place has been called the Valley of Achor to this day.

For the wicked boasts of his soul’s desire, And the greedy person curses and shows disrespect to the Lord.The wicked, in his haughtiness, does not seek Him. There is no God in all his schemes.His ways succeed at all times; Yet Your judgments are on high, out of his sight; As for all his enemies, he snorts at them.He says to himself,“ I will not be moved; Throughout the generations I will not be in adversity.”

Their inner thought is that their houses are forever And their dwelling places to all generations; They have named their lands after their own names.

But Lot’s wife, from behind him, looked back, and she became a pillar of salt.Now Abraham got up early in the morning and went to the place where he had stood before the Lord;and he looked down toward Sodom and Gomorrah, and toward all the land of the surrounding area; and behold, he saw the smoke of the land ascended like the smoke of a furnace.So it came about, when God destroyed the cities of the surrounding area, that God remembered Abraham, and sent Lot out of the midst of the destruction, when He overthrew the cities in which Lot had lived.Now Lot went up from Zoar with his two daughters and stayed in the mountains, because he was afraid to stay in Zoar; and he stayed in a cave, he and his two daughters.Then the firstborn said to the younger,“ Our father is old, and there is not a man on earth to have relations with us according to the custom of all the earth.Come, let’s make our father drink wine, and let’s sleep with him so that we may keep our family alive through our father.”So they made their father drink wine that night, and the firstborn went in and slept with her father; and he did not know when she lay down or got up.On the following day, the firstborn said to the younger,“ Look, I slept last night with my father; let’s make him drink wine tonight too, then you go in and sleep with him, so that we may keep our family alive through our father.”So they had their father drink wine that night too, and the younger got up and slept with him; and he did not know when she lay down or got up.And so both of the daughters of Lot conceived by their father.The firstborn gave birth to a son, and named him Moab; he is the father of the Moabites to this day.As for the younger, she also gave birth to a son, and named him Ben ammi; he is the father of the sons of Ammon to this day.

The carved images of their gods you are to burn with fire; you shall not covet the silver or the gold that is on them, nor take it for yourselves, or you will be trapped by it; for it is an abomination to the Lord your God.And you shall not bring an abomination into your house and become designated for destruction, like it; you are to utterly detest it, and you are to utterly loathe it, for it is something designated for destruction.

Yet you said,‘ I will be a queen forever.’ These things you did not consider Nor remember the outcome of them.“ Now, then, hear this, you luxuriant one, Who lives securely, Who says in her heart,‘ I am, and there is no one besides me. I will not sit as a widow, Nor know the loss of children.’But these two things will come on you suddenly in one day: Loss of children and widowhood. They will come on you in full measure In spite of your many sorceries, In spite of the great power of your spells.

Lot raised his eyes and saw all the vicinity of the Jordan, that it was well watered everywhere— this was before the Lord destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah— like the garden of the Lord, like the land of Egypt going toward Zoar.So Lot chose for himself all the vicinity of the Jordan, and Lot journeyed eastward. So they separated from each other.Abram settled in the land of Canaan, while Lot settled in the cities of the vicinity of the Jordan, and moved his tents as far as Sodom.Now the men of Sodom were exceedingly wicked sinners against the Lord.

“ Behold, the man who would not make God his refuge, But trusted in the abundance of his riches And was strong in his evil desire.”

For he was counted among us and received his share in this ministry.”( Now this man acquired a field with the price of his wickedness, and falling headlong, he burst open in the middle and all his intestines gushed out.And it became known to all the residents of Jerusalem; as a result that field was called Hakeldama in their own language, that is, Field of Blood.)“ For it is written in the book of Psalms:‘ May his residence be made desolate, And may there be none living in it’; and,‘ May another take his office.’Therefore it is necessary that of the men who have accompanied us all the time that the Lord Jesus went in and out among us—beginning with the baptism of John until the day that He was taken up from us— one of these must become a witness with us of His resurrection.”So they put forward two men, Joseph called Barsabbas( who was also called Justus), and Matthias.And they prayed and said,“ You, Lord, who know the hearts of all people, show which one of these two You have chosento occupy this ministry and apostleship from which Judas turned aside to go to his own place.”

Woe to them! For they have gone the way of Cain, and for pay they have given themselves up to the error of Balaam, and perished in the rebellion of Korah.

And you shall speak to him, saying,‘ This is what the Lord says:“ Have you murdered and also taken possession?” ’ And you shall speak to him, saying,‘ The Lord says this:“ In the place where the dogs licked up the blood of Naboth, the dogs will lick up your blood, yours as well.” ’ ”Then Ahab said to Elijah,“ Have you found me, enemy of mine?” And he answered,“ I have found you, because you have given yourself over to do evil in the sight of the Lord.Behold, I am bringing disaster upon you, and I will utterly sweep you away, and will eliminate from Ahab every male, both bond and free in Israel;and I will make your house like the house of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, and like the house of Baasha the son of Ahijah, because of the provocation with which you have provoked Me to anger, and because you have misled Israel into sin.The Lord has also spoken of Jezebel, saying,‘ The dogs will eat Jezebel in the territory of Jezreel.’The one belonging to Ahab, who dies in the city, the dogs will eat; and the one who dies in the field, the birds of the sky will eat.”

And Ahab spoke to Naboth, saying,“ Give me your vineyard so that I may have it for a vegetable garden, because it is close beside my house, and I will give you a better vineyard in place of it; if you prefer, I will give you what it is worth in money.”But Naboth said to Ahab,“ The Lord forbid me that I would give you the inheritance of my fathers!”So Ahab entered his house sullen and furious because of the answer that Naboth the Jezreelite had given to him, since he said,“ I will not give you the inheritance of my fathers.” And he lay down on his bed and turned his face away, and ate no food.

Because you have said,“ We have made a covenant with death, And with Sheol we have made a pact. The gushing flood will not reach us when it passes by, Because we have made falsehood our refuge and we have concealed ourselves with deception.”

A rich person’s wealth is his strong city, And like a high wall in his own imagination.Before destruction the heart of a person is haughty, But humility goes before honor.

“ Woe to him who builds his house without righteousness, And his upstairs rooms without justice, Who uses his neighbor’s services without pay And does not give him his wages,Who says,‘ I will build myself a large house With spacious upstairs rooms, And cut out its windows, Paneling it with cedar and painting it bright red.’Do you become a king because you are competing in cedar? Did your father not eat and drink And do justice and righteousness? Then it was well for him.He pled the cause of the afflicted and the poor, Then it was well. Is that not what it means to know Me?” Declares the Lord.“ But your eyes and your heart Are intent only upon your own dishonest gain, And on shedding innocent blood, And on practicing oppression and extortion.”Therefore this is what the Lord says regarding Jehoiakim the son of Josiah, king of Judah:“ They will not mourn for him:‘ Oh, my brother!’ or,‘ Oh, sister!’ They will not mourn for him:‘ Oh, for the master!’ or,‘ Oh, for his splendor!’He will be buried with a donkey’s burial, Dragged off and thrown out beyond the gates of Jerusalem.

For he has oppressed and neglected the poor; He has seized a house which he has not built.“ Because he knew no quiet within him, He does not retain anything he desires.Nothing remains for him to devour, Therefore his prosperity does not endure.In the fullness of his excess he will be cramped; The hand of everyone who suffers will come against him.When he fills his belly, God will send His fierce anger on him And rain it on him while he is eating.He may flee from the iron weapon, But the bronze bow will pierce him.It is drawn and comes out of his back, Even the flashing point from his gallbladder; Terrors come upon him,Complete darkness is held in reserve for his treasures, And unfanned fire will devour him; It will consume the survivor in his tent.The heavens will reveal his guilt, And the earth will rise up against him.The increase of his house will disappear; His possessions will flow away on the day of His anger.

Though you make your home high like the eagle, Though you set your nest among the stars, From there I will bring you down,” declares the Lord.
