呼木偶曰、醒歟、呼不能言之石像曰、起歟、斯人禍矣、偶像豈能應應或作垂訓乎、俱飾以金銀者、其中無生氣、其中無生氣或作不通呼吸

謂木曰寤、謂啞石曰起、其人禍哉、此物豈能垂訓乎、彼飾以金銀、而中無生氣、

木石不能言、有求其起而庇佑者、禍必不遠、維彼偶像、雖飾金銀、不通呼吸、焉能有應、

Woe to him who says to wood,‘ Come to life!’ Or to lifeless stone,‘ Wake up!’ Can it give guidance? It is covered with gold and silver; there is no breath in it.”

How terrible it will be for the Babylonians! They say to a wooden god,‘ Come to life!’ They say to a stone god,‘ Wake up!’ Can those gods give advice? They are covered with gold and silver. They can’t even breathe.”

Woe to him who says to a wooden thing, Awake; to a silent stone, Arise! Can this teach? Behold, it is overlaid with gold and silver, and there is no breath at all in it.

What sorrow awaits you who say to wooden idols,‘ Wake up and save us!’ To speechless stone images you say,‘ Rise up and teach us!’ Can an idol tell you what to do? They may be overlaid with gold and silver, but they are lifeless inside.

Woe to him who says to wood: Wake up! or to mute stone: Come alive! Can it teach? Look! It may be plated with gold and silver, yet there is no breath in it at all.

Woe to him who says to a piece of wood,‘ Awake!’ To a mute stone,‘ Arise!’ That is your teacher? Behold, it is overlaid with gold and silver, Yet there is no breath at all inside it.

Woe to him who says to wood,‘ Awake!’ To silent stone,‘ Arise! It shall teach!’ Behold, it is overlaid with gold and silver, Yet in it there is no breath at all.

Woe to him who says to the wood,‘ Awake!’ or to the mute stone,‘ Arise!’ Shall this teach? Behold, it is overlaid with gold and silver, and there is no breath at all within it.

有耳不能聞、且口無呼吸之氣、

以金銀飾之、以釘以鎚堅之、使不搖動、

自他施攜擣薄之銀、亦自烏法攜金以飾之、木工銀工作之、衣紫與絳、巧工所織、

所餘即作神像偶像、俯伏其前叩拜、禱之曰、求爾救我、因爾即我神、

時日將至、我必降災於巴比倫之諸偶像、通國抱愧、其眾見殺者、偃仆其中、

舟子恐懼、各禱其神、以舟中所載之物、盡擲於海、以輕其舟、約拿已下艙、偃臥酣寢、

尼布甲尼撒王作一金像、高六十尺、尺原文作肘因古以肘為度下同廣六尺、立於巴比倫州杜拉平原、

既為天主所生、則不當思天主之體、似金似銀似石、為人工機巧所製、

人不明此理、甚為愚魯、匠人必因所製偶像慚愧、蓋所鑄之偶像乃虛偽、內無生氣、

偶像為匠人所鑄、銀工包之以金、以銀鑄瓔珞為飾、銀工包之以金以銀鑄瓔珞為飾或作銀工飾之以金又為之鑄銀鏈

凡崇拜偶像、倚賴虛無之神以自誇者、皆必羞愧、諸神乎、爾曹皆當敬拜主、

婦衣紫絳、飾以金珠寶石、手執金杯、杯中滿以可憎之物及其淫穢、

人自囊傾金、以衡衡銀、覓銀工、製神像、俯伏崇拜、

故諸民、諸國、諸族、一聽角、笛、琵琶、琴瑟、簫、笙、及諸他類樂器之音、咸俯伏崇拜尼布甲尼撒王所立之金像、

即不然、王亦當知我儕不事王之神、不拜王所立之金像、

竟向天上之主自高、使人將其殿之器皿、取至爾前、爾與爾大臣及妃嬪、以之飲酒、讚美金銀銅鐵木石所造諸神、彼不見不聞不知、惟掌爾生氣生氣或作呼吸及爾命運爾命運原文作爾諸道塗之天主、爾反不頌揚之、

我今頒詔命、諸民、諸國、諸族、凡以言褻瀆沙得拉、米煞、亞伯尼歌之天主、必剖其身、使其宅第變為糞場、蓋無他神、能救人若此、
