The end will come with a flood, and war and its miseries are decreed from that time to the very end.

But Paul replied,“ They have publicly beaten us without a trial and put us in prison— and we are Roman citizens. So now they want us to leave secretly? Certainly not! Let them come themselves to release us!”When the police reported this, the city officials were alarmed to learn that Paul and Silas were Roman citizens.So they came to the jail and apologized to them. Then they brought them out and begged them to leave the city.

Meanwhile, the priests who were carrying the Ark of the Lord’s Covenant stood on dry ground in the middle of the riverbed as the people passed by. They waited there until the whole nation of Israel had crossed the Jordan on dry ground.

Because of the covenant I made with you, sealed with blood, I will free your prisoners from death in a waterless dungeon.

The priests who were carrying the Ark stood in the middle of the river until all of the Lord’s commands that Moses had given to Joshua were carried out. Meanwhile, the people hurried across the riverbed.

He went on board the boat to escape the flood— he and his wife and his sons and their wives.

“ Command the priests carrying the Ark of the Covenant to come up out of the riverbed.”So Joshua gave the command.As soon as the priests carrying the Ark of the Lord’s Covenant came up out of the riverbed and their feet were on high ground, the water of the Jordan returned and overflowed its banks as before.

The jailer woke up to see the prison doors wide open. He assumed the prisoners had escaped, so he drew his sword to kill himself.But Paul shouted to him,“ Stop! Don’t kill yourself! We are all here!”
