非利士人與以色列人打仗。大衛帶領僕人下去，與非利士人交戰，大衛就疲乏了。巨人族的後裔以實‧比諾說要殺大衛；他的銅槍重三百舍客勒，腰間又佩着新刀。但洗魯雅的兒子亞比篩幫助大衛攻擊非利士人，殺死了他。當日，大衛的人向大衛起誓說：「你不可再與我們一同出戰，免得以色列的燈熄滅了。」後來，在歌伯又與非利士人打仗，那時戶沙人西比該殺了巨人族的後裔撒弗。他們又在歌伯與非利士人打仗，伯利恆人雅雷的兒子伊勒哈難殺了迦特人歌利亞；這人的槍桿粗如織布機的軸。又有一次，他們在迦特打仗。那裏有一個身材高大的人，雙手各有六根手指，雙腳各有六根腳趾，共有二十四根；他也是巨人族的後裔。他向以色列罵陣，大衛的哥哥示米亞的兒子約拿單就殺了他。這四個人是迦特巨人族的後裔，都仆倒在大衛和他僕人的手下。

利乏音人所剩下的只有巴珊王噩。看哪，他的床是鐵床，按照人肘的度量，長九肘，寬四肘，現今不是在亞捫人的拉巴嗎？」

從非利士營中出來一個挑戰的人，名叫歌利亞，是迦特人，身高六肘一虎口。

那地也算是利乏音人之地，因為先前利乏音人住在那裏，亞捫人稱他們為散送冥人。那裏的百姓又大又多，像亞衲人一樣高大，但耶和華從亞捫人面前除滅他們，亞捫人就佔領他們的地，接續他們在那裏居住。

以色列人中的二百五十個領袖，就是有名望、從會眾中選出來的人，在摩西面前一同起來，

他們說：「來，讓我們建造一座城和一座塔，塔頂通天。我們要為自己立名，免得我們分散在全地面上。」
