After some time, Hannah conceived and gave birth to a son. She named him Samuel, because she said,“ I requested him from the LORD.”

Eli would bless Elkanah and his wife:“ May the LORD give you children by this woman in place of the one she has given to the LORD.” Then they would go home.The LORD paid attention to Hannah’s need, and she conceived and gave birth to three sons and two daughters. Meanwhile, the boy Samuel grew up in the presence of the LORD.

May God give to you— from the dew of the sky and from the richness of the land— an abundance of grain and new wine.May peoples serve you and nations bow in worship to you. Be master over your relatives; may your mother’s sons bow in worship to you. Those who curse you will be cursed, and those who bless you will be blessed.

Obed-edom also had sons: Shemaiah the firstborn, Jehozabad the second, Joah the third, Sachar the fourth, Nethanel the fifth,Ammiel the sixth, Issachar the seventh, and Peullethai the eighth, for God blessed him.

Sons are indeed a heritage from the LORD, offspring, a reward.

These are the tribes of Israel, twelve in all, and this is what their father said to them. He blessed them, and he blessed each one with a suitable blessing.

But when you rebel, you will break his yoke from your neck.

May God Almighty bless you and make you fruitful and multiply you so that you become an assembly of peoples.May God give you and your offspring the blessing of Abraham so that you may possess the land where you live as a foreigner, the land God gave to Abraham.”

Jacob became angry with Rachel and said,“ Am I in the place of God? He has withheld offspring from you!”

No foreigner who has joined himself to the LORD should say,“ The LORD will exclude me from his people,” and the eunuch should not say,“ Look, I am a dried-up tree.”For the LORD says this:“ For the eunuchs who keep my Sabbaths, and choose what pleases me, and hold firmly to my covenant,I will give them, in my house and within my walls, a memorial and a name better than sons and daughters. I will give each of them an everlasting name that will never be cut off.
