All his sons and daughters came to comfort him, but he refused to be comforted.“ No,” he said,“ I will continue to mourn until I join my son in the grave.” So his father wept for him.

雅各說：“我的兒子不可與你們一同下去，因為他的哥哥死了，只剩下他一個；如果他在你們所走的路上遇到不幸，你們就使我這白髮老人愁愁苦苦地下陰間去了。”

他家中的老侍從站在他旁邊，要把他從地上扶起來，他卻不肯，也不與他們一起吃飯。

約伯的三個朋友，提幔人以利法、書亞人比勒達、拿瑪人瑣法，聽到這一切降在他身上的災禍，就各從自己的地方出發，相約而來對他表同情，安慰他。

耶和華這樣說：“在拉瑪聽見有聲音，是痛哭哀號的聲音；拉結為她的兒女哀哭，不肯受安慰，因為他們都不在了。”

我在患難的日子尋求主，我整夜舉手禱告，總不倦怠，我的心不肯受安慰。

我們對他說：‘我們是誠實人，並不是間諜。

以色列說：“夠了！約瑟我的兒子還在；在我還沒有死以前，我要去看看他。”

以色列在那地居住的時候，流本竟去與他父親的妾辟拉同睡；這事以色列也聽見了。雅各共有十二個兒子。利亞的兒子有：雅各的長子流本，以及西緬、利未、猶大、以薩迦和西布倫。拉結的兒子有：約瑟和便雅憫。拉結的婢女辟拉的兒子有：但和拿弗他利。利亞的婢女悉帕的兒子有：迦得和亞設。這些都是雅各在巴旦．亞蘭所生的兒子。

現在你們又要把這個從我面前帶去，如果他遇到不幸，你們就使我這個白髮老人，悲悲慘慘地下陰間去了。’我父親的命與這孩子的命，是相連在一起的。現在我回到你僕人我的父親那裡，如果沒有孩子與我們在一起，他一見沒有孩子，就必定死；這樣，你僕人們就使你僕人我們的父親，這個白髮老人，愁愁苦苦地下陰間去了。

拉班回答雅各，說：“這些女兒是我的女兒；這些孩子是我的孩子；這些羊群也是我的羊群。其實你眼所見的一切都是我的。但我今日向我的女兒和她們所生的孩子，能作甚麼呢？
