以掃對雅各說：「我要餓死了，給我一些紅豆湯喝吧！」因此，以掃又叫以東。

把雅各和以掃賜給以撒，把西珥山賜給以掃作產業，雅各和他的子孫則去了埃及。

不要惹他們，因為我已把西珥山賜給以掃作產業，他們的土地，我一寸也不會賜給你們。

倒不如請我主先走，我遷就牲畜和孩子慢慢走，我在西珥與我主會合。」

在西珥山打敗住在那裡的何利人，直殺到靠近曠野的伊勒·巴蘭。

以掃帶著他在迦南所得的妻子、兒女和家中所有的人員，以及所有的牲畜和財產離開雅各，遷往別處。以掃和雅各兩家的財產和牲畜太多，那地方不夠他們住，於是以掃，即以東，搬到了西珥山居住。以掃是西珥山區以東人的祖先，以下是他的子孫。

祂先派人到撒瑪利亞的一個村莊去預備食宿，

耶和華也曾為以掃的子孫消滅住在西珥的何利人，讓他們佔據何利人的土地，住在那裡，直到今日。

於是，以掃在當天先回西珥去了，

以掃因為父親把祝福給了雅各，就對雅各懷恨在心，暗自思量說：「父親已經不久人世，他死後，我要把雅各殺掉！」以掃的計謀傳到利百加耳中。她就派人把雅各叫來，對他說：「你哥哥以掃想要殺你洩憤！

萬軍之耶和華說：「我要差遣我的使者為我開路。你們所尋求的主必突然來到祂的殿中。你們所期盼的那位立約的使者快要來了！」

「哪有王要跟另一個王打仗時，不先坐下來酌量一下自己的一萬人是否敵得過對方的兩萬人？如果自知不敵，一定趁敵人還遠的時候，就差使者去求和。
