“人怎能躲藏在隱密處，以致我看不見他呢？（這是耶和華的宣告）。我豈不是充滿天地嗎？”這是耶和華的宣告。

耶和華啊！你鑒察了我，你認識我。（本節在《馬索拉文本》包括細字標題）我坐下，我起來，你都知道；你在遠處就明白我的意念。我行路，我躺臥，你都細察；我的一切行為，你都熟悉。耶和華啊！我的舌頭還沒有發言，你已經完全知道了。你在我前後圍繞著我，你的手按在我身上。這樣的知識奇妙，是我不能理解的；高超，是我不能達到的。我到哪裡去躲避你的靈？我往哪裡去逃避你的面呢？如果我升到天上，你在那裡；如果我在陰間下榻，你也在那裡。如果我展開清晨的翅膀，飛到海的極處居住，就是在那裡，你的手仍必引導我，你的右手也必扶持我。如果我說：“願黑暗遮蓋我，願我周圍的亮光變成黑夜。”但對你來說，黑暗也不算是黑暗，黑夜必如同白晝一樣發亮，黑暗和光明，在你看來都是一樣的。

被造的在神面前沒有一樣不是顯明的，萬有在他的眼前都是赤露敞開的；我們必須向他交帳。

我若像亞當遮掩我的過犯，把我的罪孽藏在懷中，

可是約拿卻起來，要逃往他施去，躲避耶和華；他下到約帕，找到了一隻要開往他施去的船；他給了錢，就上船（“上船”原文作“下船”），要和他們同往他施去，離開耶和華。

神的眼看顧人的道路，察看他每一步，沒有黑暗，又沒有死蔭的地方，可以給作孽的在那裡藏身。

耶和華的眼目無所不在；壞人好人他都鑒察。

他回答說：“我是希伯來人，我敬畏耶和華天上的神，就是那創造海洋和陸地的。”眾人就大大懼怕，對他說：“你為甚麼這樣作呢？（“你為甚麼這樣作呢？”或譯：“你作的是甚麼呢？”）”那些人知道他躲避耶和華，原來約拿告訴了他們。

這就表明律法的作用是刻在他們的心裡，有他們的良心一同作證，他們的思想互相較量，或作控告、或作辯護。

如果他們下到陰間，就是在那裡，我的手必把他們揪上來；如果他們升到天上，就是在那裡，我必把他們拉下來；如果他們躲在迦密山頂，就是在那裡，我必搜尋他們，抓他們出來；如果他們要躲避我，藏在海底，就是在那裡，我必命令蛇去咬他們；

有沒有一個民族聽見神在火中說話的聲音，像你聽見的一樣，還能活著呢？

那時，耶和華在旋風中回答約伯，說：

因為耶和華你的神常在你的營中行走，要拯救你，要把你的仇敵交在你的面前；所以你的營要聖潔，免得他看見你那裡有污穢的東西，就離開你。

他回答：“我在園中聽見你的聲音，就害怕；因為我赤身露體，就藏了起來。”

現在這大火快要吞滅我們了，我們為甚麼要冒死呢？如果我們再聽見耶和華我們神的聲音，我們就必死亡。

密雲把他遮蓋，使他不能看見我們；他在天上的圓圈上面走來走去。’
