Leah conceived, and bore a son, and she named him Reuben. For she said,“ Because Yahweh has looked at my affliction; for now my husband will love me.”

Leah became pregnant and gave birth to a son. She named him Reuben, for she said,“ It is because the Lord has seen my misery. Surely my husband will love me now.”

Leah became pregnant. She had a son. She named him Reuben. She said,“ The Lord has seen me suffer. Surely my husband will love me now.”

And Leah conceived and bore a son, and she called his name Reuben, for she said,“ Because the Lord has looked upon my affliction; for now my husband will love me.”

So Leah became pregnant and gave birth to a son. She named him Reuben, for she said,“ The Lord has noticed my misery, and now my husband will love me.”

Leah conceived, gave birth to a son, and named him Reuben, for she said,“ The LORD has seen my affliction; surely my husband will love me now.”

So Leah became pregnant and gave birth to a son. She named him Reuben, for she said,“ The LORD has looked with pity on my oppressed condition. Surely my husband will love me now.”

Then we cried to Yahweh, the God of our fathers. Yahweh heard our voice, and saw our affliction, our toil, and our oppression.

The people believed, and when they heard that Yahweh had visited the children of Israel, and that he had seen their affliction, then they bowed their heads and worshiped.

Yahweh said,“ I have surely seen the affliction of my people who are in Egypt, and have heard their cry because of their taskmasters, for I know their sorrows.

Consider my affliction and my travail. Forgive all my sins.

Unless the God of my father, the God of Abraham, and the fear of Isaac, had been with me, surely now you would have sent me away empty. God has seen my affliction and the labor of my hands, and rebuked you last night.”

“ Thus has the Lord done to me in the days in which he looked at me, to take away my reproach among men.”

As one of them opened his sack to give his donkey food in the lodging place, he saw his money. Behold, it was in the mouth of his sack.

It may be that Yahweh will look on the wrong done to me, and that Yahweh will repay me good for the cursing of me today.”

“ Reuben, you are my firstborn, my might, and the beginning of my strength; excelling in dignity, and excelling in power.Boiling over like water, you shall not excel; because you went up to your father’s bed, then defiled it. He went up to my couch.

Reuben returned to the pit, and saw that Joseph wasn’t in the pit; and he tore his clothes.

While Israel lived in that land, Reuben went and lay with Bilhah, his father’s concubine, and Israel heard of it. Now the sons of Jacob were twelve.

When the time had come, Hannah conceived, and bore a son; and she named him Samuel, saying,“ Because I have asked him of Yahweh.”

Yahweh’s angel said to her,“ Behold, you are with child, and will bear a son. You shall call his name Ishmael, because Yahweh has heard your affliction.

Reuben heard it, and delivered him out of their hand, and said,“ Let’s not take his life.”Reuben said to them,“ Shed no blood. Throw him into this pit that is in the wilderness, but lay no hand on him”— that he might deliver him out of their hand, to restore him to his father.

The sons of Reuben the firstborn of Israel( for he was the firstborn; but, because he defiled his father’s couch, his birthright was given to the sons of Joseph the son of Israel; and the genealogy is not to be listed according to the birthright.

She vowed a vow, and said,“ Yahweh of Armies, if you will indeed look at the affliction of your servant and remember me, and not forget your servant, but will give to your servant a boy, then I will give him to Yahweh all the days of his life, and no razor shall come on his head.”

Nevertheless he regarded their distress, when he heard their cry.

These are the names of the children of Israel, who came into Egypt, Jacob and his sons: Reuben, Jacob’s firstborn.The sons of Reuben: Hanoch, Pallu, Hezron, and Carmi.

Reuben answered them, saying,“ Didn’t I tell you, saying,‘ Don’t sin against the child,’ and you wouldn’t listen? Therefore also, behold, his blood is required.”
