Now there was a famine in the land— besides the previous famine in Abraham’s time— and Isaac went to Abimelek king of the Philistines in Gerar.

There was very little food in the land. The same thing had been true earlier, in Abraham’s time. Isaac went to Abimelek in Gerar. Abimelek was the king of the Philistines.

當那時候，亞比米勒同他的軍長非各對亞伯拉罕說：『在你所作的一切事上、上帝都和你同在。如今請在這裏指着上帝對我起誓：你不要以詐偽待我和我的苗裔及後代；我怎樣厚待了你，你也要怎樣厚待我、和你所寄居的這地。亞伯拉罕說：『我倒情願起誓。』但亞伯拉罕卻屢次為了一口水井而指責亞比米勒，因為亞比米勒的僕人把那口水井霸佔了。亞比米勒呢、也屢次說：『誰作了這事、我都不知道；你也沒有告訴我；我也沒有聽見；到今天才聽見。』亞伯拉罕取了羊羣牛羣給亞比米勒，二人就立了約。亞伯拉罕把羊羣中七隻母羊羔另放在一處。亞比米勒問亞伯拉罕說：『你另放在一處的這七隻母羊羔要做甚麼？』亞伯拉罕說：『這七隻母羊羔、你要從我手裏收取了去，好給我做證據我挖了這口井。』因此他給那地方起名叫別是巴，因為他們二人起了誓就在那裏。他們在別是巴立了約；亞比米勒和他的軍長非各就起身，他們就回非利士地去了。

亞伯拉罕從那裏向南地往前行，就住在加低斯和書珥之間，寄居在基拉耳。提到他的妻子撒拉、亞伯拉罕就說：『她是我的妹妹』；於是基拉耳王亞比米勒打發人將撒拉取了去。
