My master made me promise him. He said,‘ I’m living in the land of the people of Canaan. But promise me that you won’t get a wife for my son from their daughters.

我主人叫我起誓说：‘不要为我儿子娶我所居住的迦南地的女子为妻。

主人要我起誓，他说，‘你不可以给我的儿子娶迦南女子为妻，

我主人要我起誓，说：‘你不可从我现在居住的迦南地中，为我的儿子娶迦南的女子为妻。

我主人要我起誓，说：‘你不可从我所住的迦南人之地，为我的儿子娶他们的女儿为妻；

我主人叫我起誓說：『你不要為我兒子娶迦南地的女子為妻。

我主人叫我起誓說：『不要為我兒子娶我所居住的迦南地的女子為妻。

我主人叫我起誓說：『不要為我兒子娶我所居住的迦南地的女子為妻。

主人要我起誓，他說，『你不可以給我的兒子娶迦南女子為妻，

我主人要我起誓，說：‘你不可從我現在居住的迦南地中，為我的兒子娶迦南的女子為妻。

我主人叫我起誓說：「我住在迦南人之地；你不要從迦南人的女子中給我兒子娶妻，

我主人要我起誓，說：『你不可從我所住的迦南人之地，為我的兒子娶他們的女兒為妻；

吾主令我誓曰、余居迦南、勿娶其女、為我子婦、

主令我誓云、我居迦南、其地之女、勿妻吾子。

主人令我誓云、毋為我子娶我所居迦南地之女為妻、或作我居迦南地毋為我子娶其地之女為妻

And my master made me swear an oath, and said,‘ You must not get a wife for my son from the daughters of the Canaanites, in whose land I live,

My master made me swear, saying,‘ You shall not take a wife for my son from the daughters of the Canaanites, in whose land I dwell,

And my master made me take an oath. He said,‘ Do not allow my son to marry one of these local Canaanite women.

My master put me under this oath:‘ You will not take a wife for my son from the daughters of the Canaanites in whose land I live

My master made me swear, saying,‘ You shall not take a wife for my son from the daughters of the Canaanites, in whose land I live;

Now my master made me swear, saying,‘ You shall not take a wife for my son from the daughters of the Canaanites, in whose land I dwell;

And my master made me swear, saying, Thou shalt not take a wife for my son of the daughters of the Canaanites, in whose land I dwell:

My master put me under this oath:‘ You will not take a wife for my son from the daughters of the Canaanites in whose land I live

And my master made me swear, saying, Thou shalt not take a wife to my son of the daughters of the Canaanites, in whose land I dwell:

My master made me swear an oath. He said,‘ You must not acquire a wife for my son from the daughters of the Canaanites, among whom I am living,

My master made me swear, saying,‘ You shall not take a wife for my son from the daughters of the Canaanites, in whose land I live,

After all these things had been done, the leaders came to me. They said,“ The people of Israel have committed sins. Even the priests and Levites have sinned. They haven’t kept themselves separate from the nations around them. The Lord hates the practices of those nations. He hates what the Canaanites, Hittites, Perizzites and Jebusites do. He also hates what the Ammonites, Moabites, Egyptians and Amorites do.The men of Israel have married the daughters of some of those people. They’ve also taken some of those women for their sons to marry. So they’ve mixed our holy nation with the nations around us. We leaders and officials have also married women who don’t worship the Lord. By doing this, we have led the way in breaking our covenant with the Lord.”When I heard that, I tore my inner robe and my coat. I pulled hair from my head and beard. I was so shocked I sat down.

The best servant in his house was in charge of everything Abraham had. Abraham said to him,“ Put your hand under my thigh.The Lord is the God of heaven and the God of earth. I want you to make a promise to me in his name. I’m living among the people of Canaan. But I want you to promise me that you won’t get a wife for my son from their daughters.Instead, promise me that you will go to my country and to my own relatives. Get a wife for my son Isaac from there.”The servant asked Abraham,“ What if the woman doesn’t want to come back with me to this land? Then should I take your son back to the country you came from?”“ Make sure you don’t take my son back there,” Abraham said.“ The Lord, the God of heaven, took me away from my father’s family. He brought me out of my own land. He made me a promise. He said,‘ I will give this land to your family after you.’ The Lord will send his angel ahead of you. So you will be able to get a wife for my son from there.The woman may not want to come back with you. If she doesn’t, you will be free from your promise. But don’t take my son back there.”So the servant put his hand under Abraham’s thigh. He promised to do what his master wanted.

Then Rebekah spoke to Isaac. She said,“ I’m sick of living because of Esau’s Hittite wives. Suppose Jacob also marries a Hittite woman. If he does, my life won’t be worth living.”

The sons of God saw that the daughters of human beings were beautiful. So they married any of them they chose.
