“ Your cousin Hanamel son of Shallum will come and say to you,‘ Buy my field at Anathoth. By law you have the right to buy it before it is offered to anyone else.’”Then, just as the Lord had said he would, my cousin Hanamel came and visited me in the prison. He said,“ Please buy my field at Anathoth in the land of Benjamin. By law you have the right to buy it before it is offered to anyone else, so buy it for yourself.” Then I knew that the message I had heard was from the Lord.So I bought the field at Anathoth, paying Hanamel seventeen pieces of silver for it.I signed and sealed the deed of purchase before witnesses, weighed out the silver, and paid him.Then I took the sealed deed and an unsealed copy of the deed, which contained the terms and conditions of the purchase,and I handed them to Baruch son of Neriah and grandson of Mahseiah. I did all this in the presence of my cousin Hanamel, the witnesses who had signed the deed, and all the men of Judah who were there in the courtyard of the guardhouse.

Boaz went to the town gate and took a seat there. Just then the family redeemer he had mentioned came by, so Boaz called out to him,“ Come over here and sit down, friend. I want to talk to you.” So they sat down together.

“ You must not convict anyone of a crime on the testimony of only one witness. The facts of the case must be established by the testimony of two or three witnesses.

Then I will build an altar to the Lord there, so that he will stop the plague.”“ Take it, my lord the king, and use it as you wish,” Araunah said to David.“ I will give the oxen for the burnt offerings, and the threshing boards for wood to build a fire on the altar, and the wheat for the grain offering. I will give it all to you.”But King David replied to Araunah,“ No, I insist on buying it for the full price. I will not take what is yours and give it to the Lord. I will not present burnt offerings that have cost me nothing!”

Then Boaz said to the elders and to the crowd standing around,“ You are witnesses that today I have bought from Naomi all the property of Elimelech, Kilion, and Mahlon.

“ All murderers must be put to death, but only if evidence is presented by more than one witness. No one may be put to death on the testimony of only one witness.

“ Then, turning to the others standing nearby, the king ordered,‘ Take the money from this servant, and give it to the one who has ten pounds.’

But generous people plan to do what is generous, and they stand firm in their generosity.

“ Listen, my lord, you are an honored prince among us. Choose the finest of our tombs and bury her there. No one here will refuse to help you in this way.”
