When Araunah saw the king and his men coming toward him, he came and bowed before the king with his face to the ground.“ Why have you come, my lord the king?” Araunah asked. David replied,“ I have come to buy your threshing floor and to build an altar to the Lord there, so that he will stop the plague.”“ Take it, my lord the king, and use it as you wish,” Araunah said to David.“ Here are oxen for the burnt offering, and you can use the threshing boards and ox yokes for wood to build a fire on the altar.I will give it all to you, Your Majesty, and may the Lord your God accept your sacrifice.”But the king replied to Araunah,“ No, I insist on buying it, for I will not present burnt offerings to the Lord my God that have cost me nothing.” So David paid him fifty pieces of silver for the threshing floor and the oxen.

“ Your cousin Hanamel son of Shallum will come and say to you,‘ Buy my field at Anathoth. By law you have the right to buy it before it is offered to anyone else.’”Then, just as the Lord had said he would, my cousin Hanamel came and visited me in the prison. He said,“ Please buy my field at Anathoth in the land of Benjamin. By law you have the right to buy it before it is offered to anyone else, so buy it for yourself.” Then I knew that the message I had heard was from the Lord.So I bought the field at Anathoth, paying Hanamel seventeen pieces of silver for it.I signed and sealed the deed of purchase before witnesses, weighed out the silver, and paid him.Then I took the sealed deed and an unsealed copy of the deed, which contained the terms and conditions of the purchase,and I handed them to Baruch son of Neriah and grandson of Mahseiah. I did all this in the presence of my cousin Hanamel, the witnesses who had signed the deed, and all the men of Judah who were there in the courtyard of the guardhouse.
