But Abram replied,“ O Sovereign Lord, how can I be sure that I will actually possess it?”

亞伯蘭說：「主耶和華啊，我怎能知道我會擁有這地呢？」

曰、主耶和華歟、我承此地、何以知之、

曰、吾主耶和華、我得此地、何以知之。

曰、主天主歟、我得此地為業、何以知之、

But Abram said,“ Sovereign Lord, how can I know that I will gain possession of it?”

But Abram said,“ Lord and King, how can I know I will have this land as my own?”

But he said,“ O Lord God, how am I to know that I shall possess it?”

But he said,“ Lord GOD, how can I know that I will possess it?”

But he said,“ Lord God, how may I know that I will possess it?”

And he said,“ Lord GOD, how shall I know that I will inherit it?”

And he said, O Lord Jehovah, whereby shall I know that I shall inherit it?

But he said,“ Lord God, how can I know that I will possess it?”

And he said, Lord GOD, whereby shall I know that I shall inherit it?

But Abram said,“ O sovereign LORD, by what can I know that I am to possess it?”

He said,“ Lord Yahweh, how will I know that I will inherit it?”

Zechariah said to the angel,“ How can I be sure this will happen? I’m an old man now, and my wife is also well along in years.”

Then Gideon said to God,“ If you are truly going to use me to rescue Israel as you promised,prove it to me in this way. I will put a wool fleece on the threshing floor tonight. If the fleece is wet with dew in the morning but the ground is dry, then I will know that you are going to help me rescue Israel as you promised.”And that is just what happened. When Gideon got up early the next morning, he squeezed the fleece and wrung out a whole bowlful of water.Then Gideon said to God,“ Please don’t be angry with me, but let me make one more request. Let me use the fleece for one more test. This time let the fleece remain dry while the ground around it is wet with dew.”So that night God did as Gideon asked. The fleece was dry in the morning, but the ground was covered with dew.

Send me a sign of your favor. Then those who hate me will be put to shame, for you, O Lord, help and comfort me.

Meanwhile, Hezekiah had said to Isaiah,“ What sign will the Lord give to prove that he will heal me and that I will go to the Temple of the Lord three days from now?”

“ Ask the Lord your God for a sign of confirmation, Ahaz. Make it as difficult as you want— as high as heaven or as deep as the place of the dead.”

See, I am standing here beside this spring, and the young women of the town are coming out to draw water.This is my request. I will ask one of them,‘ Please give me a drink from your jug.’ If she says,‘ Yes, have a drink, and I will water your camels, too!’— let her be the one you have selected as Isaac’s wife. This is how I will know that you have shown unfailing love to my master.”

Mary asked the angel,“ But how can this happen? I am a virgin.”

One day Abraham said to his oldest servant, the man in charge of his household,“ Take an oath by putting your hand under my thigh.Swear by the Lord, the God of heaven and earth, that you will not allow my son to marry one of these local Canaanite women.Go instead to my homeland, to my relatives, and find a wife there for my son Isaac.”

Gideon replied,“ If you are truly going to help me, show me a sign to prove that it is really the Lord speaking to me.Don’t go away until I come back and bring my offering to you.” He answered,“ I will stay here until you return.”Gideon hurried home. He cooked a young goat, and with a basket of flour he baked some bread without yeast. Then, carrying the meat in a basket and the broth in a pot, he brought them out and presented them to the angel, who was under the great tree.The angel of God said to him,“ Place the meat and the unleavened bread on this rock, and pour the broth over it.” And Gideon did as he was told.Then the angel of the Lord touched the meat and bread with the tip of the staff in his hand, and fire flamed up from the rock and consumed all he had brought. And the angel of the Lord disappeared.When Gideon realized that it was the angel of the Lord, he cried out,“ Oh, Sovereign Lord, I’m doomed! I have seen the angel of the Lord face to face!”“ It is all right,” the Lord replied.“ Do not be afraid. You will not die.”And Gideon built an altar to the Lord there and named it Yahweh Shalom( which means“ the Lord is peace”). The altar remains in Ophrah in the land of the clan of Abiezer to this day.

If they say to us,‘ Stay where you are or we’ll kill you,’ then we will stop and not go up to them.But if they say,‘ Come on up and fight,’ then we will go up. That will be the Lord’s sign that he will help us defeat them.”
