They began saying to each other,“ Let’s make bricks and harden them with fire.”( In this region bricks were used instead of stone, and tar was used for mortar.)

They said to each other,“ Come, let’s make oven-fired bricks.”( They used brick for stone and asphalt for mortar.)

Then they said to one another,“ Come, let’s make bricks and fire them thoroughly.” And they used brick for stone, and they used tar for mortar.

Then they said to one another,“ Come, let us make bricks and bake them thoroughly.” They had brick for stone, and they had asphalt for mortar.

西亭谷多石油坑、所多馬王、蛾摩拉王奔而陷坑、其餘遁於山、

畀以重任、艱苦其身、陶瓦、擣土、力田、所服之役、無不以嚴。○

不可復匿、則取雈為箱、以石油瀝青塗之、納之其中、置於河濱雈間、

彼在我前、恆干震怒、獻祭於園囿、焚香於瓦壇。

驅民出邑、或解以鋸、或擊以打禾之鐵具、或傷以斧斤、或使經陶瓦之所。大闢待亞捫族諸城俱若此、然後率眾凱旋、至耶路撒冷。

我語汝、今此葡萄園、將何以處之、必撤藩衛、任其吞噬、毀垣墉、聽其蹂躪、

厥後此族陶瓦、毋仍給蒭、使往自斂。所陶之瓦、其數仍如疇昔、毋容少減。彼憚服役、故號呼曰、容我往祭我之上帝。當倍其工、使之操作、無胥動以浮言。督役者與族長出、告以色列族曰、法老命不給爾蒭。爾往隨在斂之、工毋少減。以色列族散往、遍於埃及、斂草芥以代蒭。督役者促之曰、當日竣其工、與昔有蒭無異。法老所委之督、撻以色列族長、曰、爾所陶瓦、昔有其數、今不能竣、曷故。○以色列族長籲法老曰、曷待僕若是。不給僕以蒭、而使陶瓦、僕又被撻、咎歸王臣。曰、爾怠矣、爾怠矣、故云、容我往祭耶和華。爾往操作、不給爾蒭、所陶之瓦、其數當竣。

爾曰、或今日、或明日、將往某邑、淹留一載、貿易得利、

更相勸勉、造作偶像、曰、壯乃心、木工、金工、細工、粗工、無不相助為理、使金互相銜接、釘之以釘、不能搖撼。

又曰、共相建邑、經營層臺、高及霄漢、名藉以揚、庶免四方散處。

邑將被圍、當鑿汲道、修城垣、搗土使堅、設陶造瓦、

我竊自維、試耽宴樂、試樂逸遊、明知歸於無有。

我儕臨格、淆其言語、使彼此不通。

日月未逝、宜及時相勸勉、恐迷於罪、而剛愎自用、

剛愎厥心、惟謀作惡、私設網罟、謂人不及見兮、

富者當思將來之苦而號泣、

如彼曰、爾我偕行、我匿於歧途、見無辜者殺之。
