For the same God who worked through Peter as the apostle to the Jews also worked through me as the apostle to the Gentiles.

For God, who was at work in Peter as an apostle to the circumcised, was also at work in me as an apostle to the Gentiles.

God was working in Peter as an apostle to the Jews. God was also working in me as an apostle to the Gentiles.

( for he who worked through Peter for his apostolic ministry to the circumcised worked also through me for mine to the Gentiles),

since the one at work in Peter for an apostleship to the circumcised was also at work in me for the Gentiles.

( for He who was at work for Peter in his apostleship to the circumcised was at work for me also to the Gentiles),

( for He who worked effectively in Peter for the apostleship to the circumcised also worked effectively in me toward the Gentiles),

( for he that wrought for Peter unto the apostleship of the circumcision wrought for me also unto the Gentiles);

since the One at work in Peter for an apostleship to the circumcised was also at work in me for the Gentiles.

( For he that wrought effectually in Peter to the apostleship of the circumcision, the same was mighty in me toward the Gentiles:)

( for he who empowered Peter for his apostleship to the circumcised also empowered me for my apostleship to the Gentiles)

for he who worked through Peter in the apostleship with the circumcised also worked through me with the Gentiles—

“ But the Lord said to me,‘ Go, for I will send you far away to the Gentiles!’”

You happily put up with whatever anyone tells you, even if they preach a different Jesus than the one we preach, or a different kind of Spirit than the one you received, or a different kind of gospel than the one you believed.But I don’t consider myself inferior in any way to these“ super apostles” who teach such things.

Then Peter and John laid their hands upon these believers, and they received the Holy Spirit.

But many of the people who heard their message believed it, so the number of men who believed now totaled about 5,000.

Then Peter stepped forward with the eleven other apostles and shouted to the crowd,“ Listen carefully, all of you, fellow Jews and residents of Jerusalem! Make no mistake about this.These people are not drunk, as some of you are assuming. Nine o’clock in the morning is much too early for that.No, what you see was predicted long ago by the prophet Joel:‘ In the last days,’ God says,‘ I will pour out my Spirit upon all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy. Your young men will see visions, and your old men will dream dreams.In those days I will pour out my Spirit even on my servants— men and women alike— and they will prophesy.And I will cause wonders in the heavens above and signs on the earth below— blood and fire and clouds of smoke.The sun will become dark, and the moon will turn blood red before that great and glorious day of the Lord arrives.But everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.’“ People of Israel, listen! God publicly endorsed Jesus the Nazarene by doing powerful miracles, wonders, and signs through him, as you well know.But God knew what would happen, and his prearranged plan was carried out when Jesus was betrayed. With the help of lawless Gentiles, you nailed him to a cross and killed him.But God released him from the horrors of death and raised him back to life, for death could not keep him in its grip.King David said this about him:‘ I see that the Lord is always with me. I will not be shaken, for he is right beside me.No wonder my heart is glad, and my tongue shouts his praises! My body rests in hope.For you will not leave my soul among the dead or allow your Holy One to rot in the grave.You have shown me the way of life, and you will fill me with the joy of your presence.’“ Dear brothers, think about this! You can be sure that the patriarch David wasn’t referring to himself, for he died and was buried, and his tomb is still here among us.But he was a prophet, and he knew God had promised with an oath that one of David’s own descendants would sit on his throne.David was looking into the future and speaking of the Messiah’s resurrection. He was saying that God would not leave him among the dead or allow his body to rot in the grave.“ God raised Jesus from the dead, and we are all witnesses of this.Now he is exalted to the place of highest honor in heaven, at God’s right hand. And the Father, as he had promised, gave him the Holy Spirit to pour out upon us, just as you see and hear today.For David himself never ascended into heaven, yet he said,‘ The Lord said to my Lord,“ Sit in the place of honor at my right handuntil I humble your enemies, making them a footstool under your feet.”’“ So let everyone in Israel know for certain that God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, to be both Lord and Messiah!”Peter’s words pierced their hearts, and they said to him and to the other apostles,“ Brothers, what should we do?”Peter replied,“ Each of you must repent of your sins and turn to God, and be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. Then you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.This promise is to you, to your children, and to those far away— all who have been called by the Lord our God.”Then Peter continued preaching for a long time, strongly urging all his listeners,“ Save yourselves from this crooked generation!”Those who believed what Peter said were baptized and added to the church that day— about 3,000 in all.

I ask you again, does God give you the Holy Spirit and work miracles among you because you obey the law? Of course not! It is because you believe the message you heard about Christ.

After greeting them, Paul gave a detailed account of the things God had accomplished among the Gentiles through his ministry.

But as you have seen and heard, this man Paul has persuaded many people that handmade gods aren’t really gods at all. And he’s done this not only here in Ephesus but throughout the entire province!

That’s why I work and struggle so hard, depending on Christ’s mighty power that works within me.

The apostles were performing many miraculous signs and wonders among the people. And all the believers were meeting regularly at the Temple in the area known as Solomon’s Colonnade.But no one else dared to join them, even though all the people had high regard for them.Yet more and more people believed and were brought to the Lord— crowds of both men and women.As a result of the apostles’ work, sick people were brought out into the streets on beds and mats so that Peter’s shadow might fall across some of them as he went by.Crowds came from the villages around Jerusalem, bringing their sick and those possessed by evil spirits, and they were all healed.

as an apostle to replace Judas in this ministry, for he has deserted us and gone where he belongs.”

And I will rescue you from both your own people and the Gentiles. Yes, I am sending you to the Gentilesto open their eyes, so they may turn from darkness to light and from the power of Satan to God. Then they will receive forgiveness for their sins and be given a place among God’s people, who are set apart by faith in me.’

Even if others think I am not an apostle, I certainly am to you. You yourselves are proof that I am the Lord’s apostle.

But the apostles stayed there a long time, preaching boldly about the grace of the Lord. And the Lord proved their message was true by giving them power to do miraculous signs and wonders.But the people of the town were divided in their opinion about them. Some sided with the Jews, and some with the apostles.Then a mob of Gentiles and Jews, along with their leaders, decided to attack and stone them.When the apostles learned of it, they fled to the region of Lycaonia— to the towns of Lystra and Derbe and the surrounding area.And there they preached the Good News.While they were at Lystra, Paul and Barnabas came upon a man with crippled feet. He had been that way from birth, so he had never walked. He was sittingand listening as Paul preached. Looking straight at him, Paul realized he had faith to be healed.So Paul called to him in a loud voice,“ Stand up!” And the man jumped to his feet and started walking.When the crowd saw what Paul had done, they shouted in their local dialect,“ These men are gods in human form!”

Peter saw his opportunity and addressed the crowd.“ People of Israel,” he said,“ what is so surprising about this? And why stare at us as though we had made this man walk by our own power or godliness?For it is the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob— the God of all our ancestors— who has brought glory to his servant Jesus by doing this. This is the same Jesus whom you handed over and rejected before Pilate, despite Pilate’s decision to release him.You rejected this holy, righteous one and instead demanded the release of a murderer.You killed the author of life, but God raised him from the dead. And we are witnesses of this fact!“ Through faith in the name of Jesus, this man was healed— and you know how crippled he was before. Faith in Jesus’ name has healed him before your very eyes.“ Friends, I realize that what you and your leaders did to Jesus was done in ignorance.But God was fulfilling what all the prophets had foretold about the Messiah— that he must suffer these things.Now repent of your sins and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped away.Then times of refreshment will come from the presence of the Lord, and he will again send you Jesus, your appointed Messiah.For he must remain in heaven until the time for the final restoration of all things, as God promised long ago through his holy prophets.Moses said,‘ The Lord your God will raise up for you a Prophet like me from among your own people. Listen carefully to everything he tells you.’Then Moses said,‘ Anyone who will not listen to that Prophet will be completely cut off from God’s people.’“ Starting with Samuel, every prophet spoke about what is happening today.You are the children of those prophets, and you are included in the covenant God promised to your ancestors. For God said to Abraham,‘ Through your descendants all the families on earth will be blessed.’When God raised up his servant, Jesus, he sent him first to you people of Israel, to bless you by turning each of you back from your sinful ways.”

One day as these men were worshiping the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said,“ Appoint Barnabas and Saul for the special work to which I have called them.”So after more fasting and prayer, the men laid their hands on them and sent them on their way.So Barnabas and Saul were sent out by the Holy Spirit. They went down to the seaport of Seleucia and then sailed for the island of Cyprus.There, in the town of Salamis, they went to the Jewish synagogues and preached the word of God. John Mark went with them as their assistant.Afterward they traveled from town to town across the entire island until finally they reached Paphos, where they met a Jewish sorcerer, a false prophet named Bar Jesus.He had attached himself to the governor, Sergius Paulus, who was an intelligent man. The governor invited Barnabas and Saul to visit him, for he wanted to hear the word of God.But Elymas, the sorcerer( as his name means in Greek), interfered and urged the governor to pay no attention to what Barnabas and Saul said. He was trying to keep the governor from believing.Saul, also known as Paul, was filled with the Holy Spirit, and he looked the sorcerer in the eye.Then he said,“ You son of the devil, full of every sort of deceit and fraud, and enemy of all that is good! Will you never stop perverting the true ways of the Lord?Watch now, for the Lord has laid his hand of punishment upon you, and you will be struck blind. You will not see the sunlight for some time.” Instantly mist and darkness came over the man’s eyes, and he began groping around begging for someone to take his hand and lead him.

But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you. And you will be my witnesses, telling people about me everywhere— in Jerusalem, throughout Judea, in Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”

But whatever I am now, it is all because God poured out his special favor on me— and not without results. For I have worked harder than any of the other apostles; yet it was not I but God who was working through me by his grace.

Through him, God has enriched your church in every way— with all of your eloquent words and all of your knowledge.This confirms that what I told you about Christ is true.Now you have every spiritual gift you need as you eagerly wait for the return of our Lord Jesus Christ.

God gave Paul the power to perform unusual miracles.When handkerchiefs or aprons that had merely touched his skin were placed on sick people, they were healed of their diseases, and evil spirits were expelled.

Everyone listened quietly as Barnabas and Paul told about the miraculous signs and wonders God had done through them among the Gentiles.

But the Lord said,“ Go, for Saul is my chosen instrument to take my message to the Gentiles and to kings, as well as to the people of Israel.
