Some of the Israelites, including priests, Levites, musicians, gatekeepers and temple servants, also came up to Jerusalem in the seventh year of King Artaxerxes.

Some of the Israelites came up to Jerusalem too. They included priests, Levites and musicians. They also included the temple servants and those who guarded the temple gates. It was in the seventh year that Artaxerxes was king.

And there went up also to Jerusalem, in the seventh year of Artaxerxes the king, some of the people of Israel, and some of the priests and Levites, the singers and gatekeepers, and the temple servants.

Some of the people of Israel, as well as some of the priests, Levites, singers, gatekeepers, and Temple servants, traveled up to Jerusalem with him in the seventh year of King Artaxerxes’ reign.

Some of the Israelites, priests, Levites, singers, gatekeepers, and temple servants accompanied him to Jerusalem in the seventh year of King Artaxerxes.

Some of the sons of Israel and some of the priests, the Levites, the singers, the gatekeepers, and the temple servants went up to Jerusalem in the seventh year of King Artaxerxes.

In the seventh year of King Artaxerxes, Ezra brought up to Jerusalem some of the Israelites and some of the priests, the Levites, the attendants, the gatekeepers, and the temple servants.

And I looked among the people and the priests, and found none of the sons of Levi there.Then I sent for Eliezer, Ariel, Shemaiah, Elnathan, Jarib, Elnathan, Nathan, Zechariah, and Meshullam, leaders; also for Joiarib and Elnathan, men of understanding.And I gave them a command for Iddo the chief man at the place Casiphia, and I told them what they should say to Iddo and his brethren the Nethinim at the place Casiphia— that they should bring us servants for the house of our God.Then, by the good hand of our God upon us, they brought us a man of understanding, of the sons of Mahli the son of Levi, the son of Israel, namely Sherebiah, with his sons and brothers, eighteen men;and Hashabiah, and with him Jeshaiah of the sons of Merari, his brothers and their sons, twenty men;also of the Nethinim, whom David and the leaders had appointed for the service of the Levites, two hundred and twenty Nethinim. All of them were designated by name.

And it came to pass in the month of Nisan, in the twentieth year of King Artaxerxes, when wine was before him, that I took the wine and gave it to the king. Now I had never been sad in his presence before.

The Levites: the sons of Jeshua and Kadmiel, of the sons of Hodaviah, seventy-four.The singers: the sons of Asaph, one hundred and twenty-eight.The sons of the gatekeepers: the sons of Shallum, the sons of Ater, the sons of Talmon, the sons of Akkub, the sons of Hatita, and the sons of Shobai, one hundred and thirty-nine in all.The Nethinim: the sons of Ziha, the sons of Hasupha, the sons of Tabbaoth,the sons of Keros, the sons of Siaha, the sons of Padon,the sons of Lebanah, the sons of Hagabah, the sons of Akkub,the sons of Hagab, the sons of Shalmai, the sons of Hanan,the sons of Giddel, the sons of Gahar, the sons of Reaiah,the sons of Rezin, the sons of Nekoda, the sons of Gazzam,the sons of Uzza, the sons of Paseah, the sons of Besai,the sons of Asnah, the sons of Meunim, the sons of Nephusim,the sons of Bakbuk, the sons of Hakupha, the sons of Harhur,the sons of Bazluth, the sons of Mehida, the sons of Harsha,the sons of Barkos, the sons of Sisera, the sons of Tamah,the sons of Neziah, and the sons of Hatipha.The sons of Solomon’s servants: the sons of Sotai, the sons of Sophereth, the sons of Peruda,the sons of Jaala, the sons of Darkon, the sons of Giddel,the sons of Shephatiah, the sons of Hattil, the sons of Pochereth of Zebaim, and the sons of Ami.All the Nethinim and the children of Solomon’s servants were three hundred and ninety-two.And these were the ones who came up from Tel Melah, Tel Harsha, Cherub, Addan, and Immer; but they could not identify their father’s house or their genealogy, whether they were of Israel:the sons of Delaiah, the sons of Tobiah, and the sons of Nekoda, six hundred and fifty-two;and of the sons of the priests: the sons of Habaiah, the sons of Koz, and the sons of Barzillai, who took a wife of the daughters of Barzillai the Gileadite, and was called by their name.These sought their listing among those who were registered by genealogy, but they were not found; therefore they were excluded from the priesthood as defiled.And the governor said to them that they should not eat of the most holy things till a priest could consult with the Urim and Thummim.The whole assembly together was forty-two thousand three hundred and sixty,besides their male and female servants, of whom there were seven thousand three hundred and thirty-seven; and they had two hundred men and women singers.Their horses were seven hundred and thirty-six, their mules two hundred and forty-five,their camels four hundred and thirty-five, and their donkeys six thousand seven hundred and twenty.Some of the heads of the fathers’ houses, when they came to the house of the Lord which is in Jerusalem, offered freely for the house of God, to erect it in its place:According to their ability, they gave to the treasury for the work sixty-one thousand gold drachmas, five thousand minas of silver, and one hundred priestly garments.So the priests and the Levites, some of the people, the singers, the gatekeepers, and the Nethinim, dwelt in their cities, and all Israel in their cities.

Moreover David and the captains of the army separated for the service some of the sons of Asaph, of Heman, and of Jeduthun, who should prophesy with harps, stringed instruments, and cymbals. And the number of the skilled men performing their service was:Of the sons of Asaph: Zaccur, Joseph, Nethaniah, and Asharelah; the sons of Asaph were under the direction of Asaph, who prophesied according to the order of the king.Of Jeduthun, the sons of Jeduthun: Gedaliah, Zeri, Jeshaiah, Shimei, Hashabiah, and Mattithiah, six, under the direction of their father Jeduthun, who prophesied with a harp to give thanks and to praise the Lord.Of Heman, the sons of Heman: Bukkiah, Mattaniah, Uzziel, Shebuel, Jerimoth, Hananiah, Hanani, Eliathah, Giddalti, Romamti-Ezer, Joshbekashah, Mallothi, Hothir, and Mahazioth.All these were the sons of Heman the king’s seer in the words of God, to exalt his horn. For God gave Heman fourteen sons and three daughters.All these were under the direction of their father for the music in the house of the Lord, with cymbals, stringed instruments, and harps, for the service of the house of God. Asaph, Jeduthun, and Heman were under the authority of the king.So the number of them, with their brethren who were instructed in the songs of the Lord, all who were skillful, was two hundred and eighty-eight.And they cast lots for their duty, the small as well as the great, the teacher with the student.

Also we inform you that it shall not be lawful to impose tax, tribute, or custom on any of the priests, Levites, singers, gatekeepers, Nethinim, or servants of this house of God.

Now these are the men whom David appointed over the service of song in the house of the Lord, after the ark came to rest.They were ministering with music before the dwelling place of the tabernacle of meeting, until Solomon had built the house of the Lord in Jerusalem, and they served in their office according to their order.And these are the ones who ministered with their sons: Of the sons of the Kohathites were Heman the singer, the son of Joel, the son of Samuel,the son of Elkanah, the son of Jeroham, the son of Eliel, the son of Toah,the son of Zuph, the son of Elkanah, the son of Mahath, the son of Amasai,the son of Elkanah, the son of Joel, the son of Azariah, the son of Zephaniah,the son of Tahath, the son of Assir, the son of Ebiasaph, the son of Korah,the son of Izhar, the son of Kohath, the son of Levi, the son of Israel.And his brother Asaph, who stood at his right hand, was Asaph the son of Berachiah, the son of Shimea,the son of Michael, the son of Baaseiah, the son of Malchijah,the son of Ethni, the son of Zerah, the son of Adaiah,the son of Ethan, the son of Zimmah, the son of Shimei,the son of Jahath, the son of Gershon, the son of Levi.Their brethren, the sons of Merari, on the left hand, were Ethan the son of Kishi, the son of Abdi, the son of Malluch,the son of Hashabiah, the son of Amaziah, the son of Hilkiah,the son of Amzi, the son of Bani, the son of Shamer,the son of Mahli, the son of Mushi, the son of Merari, the son of Levi.And their brethren, the Levites, were appointed to every kind of service of the tabernacle of the house of God.

This is a copy of the letter that King Artaxerxes gave Ezra the priest, the scribe, expert in the words of the commandments of the Lord, and of His statutes to Israel:Artaxerxes, king of kings, To Ezra the priest, a scribe of the Law of the God of heaven: Perfect peace, and so forth.

And the gatekeepers were Shallum, Akkub, Talmon, Ahiman, and their brethren. Shallum was the chief.Until then they had been gatekeepers for the camps of the children of Levi at the King’s Gate on the east.Shallum the son of Kore, the son of Ebiasaph, the son of Korah, and his brethren, from his father’s house, the Korahites, were in charge of the work of the service, gatekeepers of the tabernacle. Their fathers had been keepers of the entrance to the camp of the Lord.And Phinehas the son of Eleazar had been the officer over them in time past; the Lord was with him.Zechariah the son of Meshelemiah was keeper of the door of the tabernacle of meeting.All those chosen as gatekeepers were two hundred and twelve. They were recorded by their genealogy, in their villages. David and Samuel the seer had appointed them to their trusted office.So they and their children were in charge of the gates of the house of the Lord, the house of the tabernacle, by assignment.The gatekeepers were assigned to the four directions: the east, west, north, and south.And their brethren in their villages had to come with them from time to time for seven days.For in this trusted office were four chief gatekeepers; they were Levites. And they had charge over the chambers and treasuries of the house of God.And they lodged all around the house of God because they had the responsibility, and they were in charge of opening it every morning.

So the elders of the Jews built, and they prospered through the prophesying of Haggai the prophet and Zechariah the son of Iddo. And they built and finished it, according to the commandment of the God of Israel, and according to the command of Cyrus, Darius, and Artaxerxes king of Persia.
