他回答我說：「這是耶和華指示所羅巴伯的話。萬軍之耶和華說：不是倚靠勢力，不是倚靠才能，乃是倚靠我的靈方能成事。大山哪，你算甚麼呢？在所羅巴伯面前，你必夷為平地。他安放頂上的那塊石頭，人就歡呼：『願恩惠、恩惠歸與這殿！』」耶和華的話臨到我，說：「所羅巴伯的手立了這殿的根基，他的手也必完成這工，你就知道萬軍之耶和華差遣我到你們這裏。誰藐視這日的事為小呢？他們見所羅巴伯手拿石垂線就歡喜。這七盞燈是耶和華的眼睛，遍察全地。」

大流士王第二年六月初一，耶和華的話藉哈該先知向撒拉鐵的兒子猶大省長所羅巴伯和約撒答的兒子約書亞大祭司傳講，說：

金銀器皿共有五千四百件。被擄的人從巴比倫上耶路撒冷的時候，設巴薩把這一切都帶了上來。

於是那位設巴薩來建立耶路撒冷上帝殿的根基。但從那時直到如今，這殿尚未修建完畢。』

耶和華激發撒拉鐵的兒子猶大省長所羅巴伯、約撒答的兒子約書亞大祭司，和所有倖存百姓的心，他們就來為萬軍之耶和華－他們上帝的殿做工。

「你要曉諭撒拉鐵的兒子猶大省長所羅巴伯、約撒答的兒子約書亞大祭司，和所有倖存的百姓，說：『你們中間存留的，有誰見過這殿從前的榮耀呢？現在你們看如何？在你們眼中豈不是如同無有嗎？所羅巴伯啊，現在，你當剛強！這是耶和華說的。約撒答的兒子約書亞大祭司啊，你當剛強！這是耶和華說的。這地的百姓啊，你們都當剛強做工，因為我與你們同在。這是萬軍之耶和華說的。
