In the first year of Cyrus king of Persia, in order to fulfill the word of the Lord spoken by Jeremiah, the Lord moved the heart of Cyrus king of Persia to make a proclamation throughout his realm and also to put it in writing:

It was the first year of the rule of Cyrus. He was king of Persia. The Lord inspired him to send a message all through his kingdom. It happened so that what the Lord had spoken through Jeremiah would come true. The message was written down. It said,

In the first year of Cyrus king of Persia, that the word of the Lord by the mouth of Jeremiah might be fulfilled, the Lord stirred up the spirit of Cyrus king of Persia, so that he made a proclamation throughout all his kingdom and also put it in writing:

In the first year of King Cyrus of Persia, the Lord fulfilled the prophecy he had given through Jeremiah. He stirred the heart of Cyrus to put this proclamation in writing and to send it throughout his kingdom:

In the first year of King Cyrus of Persia, in order to fulfill the word of the LORD spoken through Jeremiah, the LORD roused the spirit of King Cyrus to issue a proclamation throughout his entire kingdom and to put it in writing:

In the first year of King Cyrus of Persia, in order to fulfill the LORD’S message spoken through Jeremiah, the LORD stirred the mind of King Cyrus of Persia. He disseminated a proclamation throughout his entire kingdom, announcing in a written edict the following:

Now in the first year of Cyrus king of Persia, that Yahweh’s word by Jeremiah’s mouth might be accomplished, Yahweh stirred up the spirit of Cyrus king of Persia, so that he made a proclamation throughout all his kingdom, and put it also in writing, saying,

波斯王居魯士元年，耶和華為要應驗藉耶利米的口所說的話，就激發波斯王居魯士的心，使他下詔書通告全國，說：「波斯王居魯士如此說：耶和華－天上的上帝已將地上萬國賜給我，又委派我在猶大的耶路撒冷為他建造殿宇。你們中間凡作他子民的可以上去，願耶和華－他的上帝與他同在。」

「耶和華如此說：為巴比倫所定的七十年滿了以後，我要眷顧你們，向你們實現我的恩言，使你們歸回此地。

使他們在凡擄掠他們的人面前蒙憐憫。

王的心在耶和華手中像河水，他能使它隨意流轉。

七十年滿了以後，我必懲罰巴比倫王和那國，並迦勒底人之地，因他們的罪孽使那地永遠荒涼。這是耶和華說的。我也必使我向那地所說的話，就是所有記在這書上，耶利米向這些國家說的預言，都臨到那地。因為必有許多國家和大君王使迦勒底人作奴僕；我也必照他們的行為，按他們手所做的報應他們。」

然而巴比倫王居魯士元年，他降旨允准建造上帝的這殿。上帝殿中的金銀器皿，就是尼布甲尼撒從耶路撒冷殿中掠取帶到巴比倫廟裏的，居魯士王從巴比倫廟裏取出來，交給派為省長，名叫設巴薩的，對他說：可以將這些器皿帶去，放在耶路撒冷的殿中，在原處建造上帝的殿。

他們歡歡喜喜地守除酵節七日，因為耶和華使他們歡喜。耶和華又使亞述王的心轉向他們，堅固他們的手，去做上帝－以色列上帝殿的工。

我也要使猶大被擄的和以色列被擄的人歸回，並要建立他們，如起初一樣。我要洗淨他們干犯我的一切罪，赦免他們干犯我、違背我的一切罪。這城在地上萬國面前要因我的緣故，以喜樂得名，得頌讚，得榮耀，因為他們聽見我所賞賜的一切福樂。他們因我向這城所施的一切福樂平安，就懼怕戰兢。」耶和華如此說：「你們論這地方，說是荒廢、無人、無牲畜之地，但在這荒涼、無人、無居民、無牲畜的猶大城鎮和耶路撒冷街上，必再聽見歡喜和快樂的聲音、新郎和新娘的聲音，並聽見有人說：你們要稱謝萬軍之耶和華，因耶和華本為善，他的慈愛永遠長存！他們奉感謝祭到耶和華的殿中；因為我必使這地被擄的人歸回，如起初一樣。這是耶和華說的。」萬軍之耶和華如此說：「在這荒廢、無人、無牲畜之地，並其中所有的城鎮，必再有牧人的草場，可讓羊羣躺臥在那裏。在山區的城鎮、謝非拉的城鎮、尼革夫的城鎮、便雅憫地、耶路撒冷四圍的各處和猶大的城鎮，必再有羊羣從數點的人手下經過。這是耶和華說的。

以斯拉說：「耶和華－我們列祖的上帝是應當稱頌的！因他使王起這心願，使耶路撒冷耶和華的殿得榮耀，

尼布甲尼撒在位第二年，他做了很多夢，心裏煩亂，不能睡覺。

在那些日子，施洗的約翰出來，在猶太的曠野宣講：「你們要悔改！因為天國近了。」這人就是以賽亞先知所說的：「在曠野有聲音呼喊着：預備主的道，修直他的路。」

他說：「我就是那在曠野呼喊的聲音：修直主的道。」正如以賽亞先知所說的。
