Calamity upon calamity will come, and rumor upon rumor. They will go searching for a vision from the prophet, priestly instruction in the law will cease, the counsel of the elders will come to an end.

Calamity will follow calamity; rumor will follow rumor. They will look in vain for a vision from the prophets. They will receive no teaching from the priests and no counsel from the leaders.

惡訊頻傳，山河破碎，我的帳篷忽然倒塌，幔子頃刻破裂。

因此，黑夜必籠罩你們，使你們看不見異象；幽暗必臨到你們，使你們無法占卜。太陽要因你們而沉落，白晝變為黑夜。

我們再也看不到你的徵兆，先知也沒有了。無人知道這一切何時才會結束。

那時，幾位以色列的長老到我這裡來，坐在我面前。

後來，西底迦王派人把他帶到自己的宮中，私下問他：「耶和華有什麼話給你嗎？」耶利米說：「有，你要被交在巴比倫王手中。」

他們說：「來！我們設計對付耶利米吧，反正我們有祭司教導律法，有智者出謀劃策，有先知傳講預言。來吧！我們抨擊他，不要理會他的話。」

第七年五月十日，有幾個以色列的長老來到我這裡，坐在我面前。耶和華對我說：「人子啊，你要告訴他們，主耶和華這樣說，『你們是來求問我嗎？我憑我的永恆起誓，我決不讓你們求問。』

「請你為我們求問耶和華，因為巴比倫王尼布甲尼撒來攻打我們，或許耶和華會像以往一樣行神蹟，使敵人撤軍。」

你必大禍臨頭，不知如何祛災避禍。災禍必落在你身上，無可挽回。你意想不到的禍患必突然來到。

「如果你們受過這些懲罰，仍然不知悔改，我要把比先前嚴厲七倍的懲罰加在你們身上。

他們隨著人群來到你面前，坐著聆聽你的話，儼然像我的子民。但他們不付諸實行，嘴裡說的是甜言蜜語，心中卻追求不義之財。

「『我要使災禍連連臨到他們，我的箭都射向他們。

主耶和華說：「日子將到，我要使饑荒降在地上。人饑餓非因無餅，乾渴非因無水，而是因為聽不到耶和華的話。人們從南到北，從東到西，在境內四處流蕩，要尋找耶和華的話卻找不到。

第六年六月五日，我正在家中與猶大的眾長老同坐，主耶和華的能力降在我身上。

西底迦王派人把耶利米先知帶到耶和華殿的第三道門那裡與他會面。他對耶利米說：「我要問你一件事，你不可隱瞞。」耶利米說：「我若從實稟告，你一定會殺我。我就是給你建議，你也不會聽。」於是，他私下向耶利米發誓說：「我憑那賜給我們生命的永活的耶和華起誓，我決不殺你，也不把你交在想殺你的人手中。」耶利米說：「以色列的上帝——萬軍之上帝耶和華說，『如果你出去向巴比倫王的將領投降，就可以保住你和你全家的性命，這城也不會被燒毀。但如果你不出去向巴比倫王的將領投降，這城必落在迦勒底人手裡，被付之一炬，你也逃不掉。』」西底迦王說：「我害怕那些已經向迦勒底人投降的猶大人，恐怕迦勒底人會把我交給他們，任由他們羞辱。」耶利米說：「不會的。只要你聽從耶和華吩咐我對你說的話，你就可以平安無事，保全性命。耶和華已指示我，如果你不肯投降，所有留在猶大王宮的婦女都必被巴比倫王的將領俘虜，她們會諷刺你說，『你被好友欺騙、誤導，當你陷入泥潭時，他們就離棄了你。』「你的嬪妃和兒女必被交給迦勒底人，你也逃不掉，必被巴比倫王所擒。這城也要被付之一炬。」西底迦說：「不可讓人知道我們的談話，否則你會喪命。如果有官長知道我曾與你會面，前來以死亡相威脅，逼你說出我們談話的內容。你可以告訴他們，你是在求我不要把你押回約拿單的房子，以免死在那裡。」果然，官長前來查問耶利米，他就照王的吩咐回覆他們，他們便不再追問，因為他跟王的談話無人知道。耶利米被囚在護衛兵的院子裡，一直到耶路撒冷淪陷。

「如果你們仍然與我作對，不肯聽從我，我要把比先前嚴重七倍的災難降在你們身上。

錫安的城門陷入地中，主摧毀、砍斷她的門閂。她的君王和首領流落異鄉，律法不復存在，她的先知得不到從耶和華而來的異象。

我也要與你們作對，用比先前嚴重七倍的災難擊打你們。

我也要與你們作對，向你們發烈怒，把比先前嚴厲七倍的懲罰加在你們身上。
