但人逕自走着他們的路；米迦見他們比他強，就轉身回家去了。但人將米迦所製造的聖物和他那祭司都帶着走；他們到了拉億，來到一族泰然自若安心無慮的人民那裏，就用刀擊殺了他們，又放火燒了那城。也沒有人援救，因為離西頓很遠，他們又和別人沒有來往。城在那屬伯利合的山谷中。但人就重建那城，住在那裏，用以色列所生的、他們的先祖但的名字、給那城起名叫但；其實那城的名字先前叫做拉億。

耶羅波安王就打定了主意，造了兩隻金牛犢，對眾民說：『以色列人哪，你們上耶路撒冷去已經夠了；看哪，這就是你們的神、那領你們從埃及地上來的。』他就把牛犢一隻立在伯特利，一隻安在但。

『西面呢、是大海，伸界直到哈馬口對面。這是西面。

於是王對約押和跟隨他的將軍說：『你去走遍以色列眾族派，從但直到別是巴，點閱人民，我好知道人民的數目。』
