“ Son of man, take a stick of wood and write on it,‘ Belonging to Judah and the Israelites associated with him.’ Then take another stick of wood, and write on it,‘ Belonging to Joseph( that is, to Ephraim) and all the Israelites associated with him.’

“ Son of man, get a stick of wood. Write on it,‘ Belonging to the tribe of Judah and the Israelites who are connected with it.’ Then get another stick. Write on it,‘ Ephraim’s stick. Belonging to the tribes of Joseph and all the Israelites connected with them.’

“ Son of man, take a stick and write on it,‘ For Judah, and the people of Israel associated with him’; then take another stick and write on it,‘ For Joseph( the stick of Ephraim) and all the house of Israel associated with him.’

“ Son of man, take a piece of wood and carve on it these words:‘ This represents Judah and its allied tribes.’ Then take another piece and carve these words on it:‘ This represents Ephraim and the northern tribes of Israel.’

“ Son of man, take a single stick and write on it: Belonging to Judah and the Israelites associated with him. Then take another stick and write on it: Belonging to Joseph— the stick of Ephraim— and all the house of Israel associated with him.

“ Now you, son of man, take for yourself one stick and write on it,‘ For Judah and for the sons of Israel, his companions’; then take another stick and write on it,‘ For Joseph, the stick of Ephraim and all the house of Israel, his companions.’

“ As for you, son of man, take a stick for yourself and write on it:‘ For Judah and for the children of Israel, his companions.’ Then take another stick and write on it,‘ For Joseph, the stick of Ephraim, and for all the house of Israel, his companions.’

“ You, son of man, take one stick, and write on it,‘ For Judah, and for the children of Israel his companions.’ Then take another stick, and write on it,‘ For Joseph, the stick of Ephraim, and for all the house of Israel his companions.’

以色列眾人見王不依從他們，百姓就回話給王，說：「我們在大衛中有甚麼份呢？我們在耶西的兒子中沒有產業！以色列啊，回你的帳棚去吧！大衛啊，現在你顧自己的家吧！」於是，以色列人都回自己的帳棚去了；至於住猶大城鎮的以色列人，羅波安仍作他們的王。羅波安王派監管勞役的亞多蘭去，以色列眾人用石頭打他，他就死了。羅波安王急忙上車，逃回耶路撒冷去了。這樣，以色列背叛大衛家，直到今日。以色列眾人聽見耶羅波安回來了，就派人去請他到會眾那裏，立他作全以色列的王。除了猶大支派，沒有跟從大衛家的。

羅波安又鞏固這些堡壘，在其中安置軍官，儲備糧食、油和酒。他在各城裏預備盾牌和槍，使城極其堅固。猶大和便雅憫都歸了他。全以色列的祭司和利未人都從四方來歸羅波安。利未人放棄他們的郊野和產業，來到猶大與耶路撒冷，因為耶羅波安和他的兒子拒絕他們，不許他們擔任祭司事奉耶和華。耶羅波安為丘壇，為山羊鬼魔，為自己所造的牛犢設立祭司。以色列各支派中，凡立定心意尋求耶和華－以色列神的，都隨從利未人來到耶路撒冷獻祭給耶和華－他們列祖的神。這就鞏固了猶大王國，使所羅門的兒子羅波安強盛三年，因為這三年他們遵行大衛和所羅門的道。

然而亞設、瑪拿西、西布倫中也有人謙卑自己，來到耶路撒冷。神也按手在猶大人身上，使他們一心遵行王與眾領袖照着耶和華的話所發的命令。二月時，許多百姓聚集在耶路撒冷，成為一個盛大的會，要守除酵節。他們起來，把耶路撒冷的祭壇和燒香的壇盡都除去，扔在汲淪溪中。二月十四日，他們宰了逾越節的羔羊。祭司與利未人覺得慚愧，就使自己分別為聖，把燔祭奉到耶和華的殿中。他們遵照神人摩西的律法，按定例站在自己的地方；祭司從利未人手裏接過血來，灑出去。會眾中有許多人尚未分別為聖，所以利未人為所有不潔的人宰逾越節的羔羊，使他們歸耶和華為聖。從以法蓮、瑪拿西、以薩迦、西布倫來的許多百姓尚未自潔，他們卻吃逾越節的羔羊，不合所寫的條例。希西家為他們禱告說：「求至善的耶和華饒恕
