For the day is near, the day of the Lord is near— a day of clouds, a time of doom for the nations.

The day is near. The day of the Lord is coming. It will be a cloudy day. The nations have been sentenced to die.

for the terrible day is almost here— the day of the Lord! It is a day of clouds and gloom, a day of despair for the nations.

When I snuff you out, I will cover the heavens and darken their stars; I will cover the sun with a cloud, and the moon will not give its light. (niv)

Blow the trumpet in Zion; sound the alarm on my holy hill. Let all who live in the land tremble, for the day of the Lord is coming. It is close at hand—a day of darkness and gloom, a day of clouds and blackness. Like dawn spreading across the mountains a large and mighty army comes, such as never was in ancient times nor ever will be in ages to come. (niv)

Therefore this is what the Lord, the Lord God Almighty, says:“ There will be wailing in all the streets and cries of anguish in every public square. The farmers will be summoned to weep and the mourners to wail.There will be wailing in all the vineyards, for I will pass through your midst,” says the Lord.Woe to you who long for the day of the Lord! Why do you long for the day of the Lord? That day will be darkness, not light.It will be as though a man fled from a lion only to meet a bear, as though he entered his house and rested his hand on the wall only to have a snake bite him.Will not the day of the Lord be darkness, not light— pitch-dark, without a ray of brightness? Be silent before the Sovereign Lord, for the day of the Lord is near. The Lord has prepared a sacrifice; he has consecrated those he has invited. (niv)

Then the Lord will go out and fight against those nations, as he fights on a day of battle.On that day his feet will stand on the Mount of Olives, east of Jerusalem, and the Mount of Olives will be split in two from east to west, forming a great valley, with half of the mountain moving north and half moving south.You will flee by my mountain valley, for it will extend to Azel. You will flee as you fled from the earthquake in the days of Uzziah king of Judah. Then the Lord my God will come, and all the holy ones with him.On that day there will be neither sunlight nor cold, frosty darkness.It will be a unique day— a day known only to the Lord— with no distinction between day and night. When evening comes, there will be light.On that day living water will flow out from Jerusalem, half of it east to the Dead Sea and half of it west to the Mediterranean Sea, in summer and in winter.The Lord will be king over the whole earth. On that day there will be one Lord, and his name the only name.The whole land, from Geba to Rimmon, south of Jerusalem, will become like the Arabah. But Jerusalem will be raised up high from the Benjamin Gate to the site of the First Gate, to the Corner Gate, and from the Tower of Hananel to the royal winepresses, and will remain in its place.It will be inhabited; never again will it be destroyed. Jerusalem will be secure.This is the plague with which the Lord will strike all the nations that fought against Jerusalem: Their flesh will rot while they are still standing on their feet, their eyes will rot in their sockets, and their tongues will rot in their mouths.On that day people will be stricken by the Lord with great panic. They will seize each other by the hand and attack one another.Judah too will fight at Jerusalem. The wealth of all the surrounding nations will be collected— great quantities of gold and silver and clothing.A similar plague will strike the horses and mules, the camels and donkeys, and all the animals in those camps.Then the survivors from all the nations that have attacked Jerusalem will go up year after year to worship the King, the Lord Almighty, and to celebrate the Festival of Tabernacles.If any of the peoples of the earth do not go up to Jerusalem to worship the King, the Lord Almighty, they will have no rain.If the Egyptian people do not go up and take part, they will have no rain. The Lord will bring on them the plague he inflicts on the nations that do not go up to celebrate the Festival of Tabernacles.This will be the punishment of Egypt and the punishment of all the nations that do not go up to celebrate the Festival of Tabernacles. Alas for that day! For the day of the Lord is near; it will come like destruction from the Almighty. (niv)

In that day the Lord will punish the powers in the heavens above and the kings on the earth below.They will be herded together like prisoners bound in a dungeon; they will be shut up in prison and be punished after many days.The moon will be dismayed, the sun ashamed; for the Lord Almighty will reign on Mount Zion and in Jerusalem, and before its elders— with great glory. The Lord is angry with all nations; his wrath is on all their armies. He will totally destroy them, he will give them over to slaughter.Their slain will be thrown out, their dead bodies will stink; the mountains will be soaked with their blood.All the stars in the sky will be dissolved and the heavens rolled up like a scroll; all the starry host will fall like withered leaves from the vine, like shriveled figs from the fig tree.My sword has drunk its fill in the heavens; see, it descends in judgment on Edom, the people I have totally destroyed.The sword of the Lord is bathed in blood, it is covered with fat— the blood of lambs and goats, fat from the kidneys of rams. For the Lord has a sacrifice in Bozrah and a great slaughter in the land of Edom.And the wild oxen will fall with them, the bull calves and the great bulls. Their land will be drenched with blood, and the dust will be soaked with fat.For the Lord has a day of vengeance, a year of retribution, to uphold Zion’s cause.Edom’s streams will be turned into pitch, her dust into burning sulfur; her land will become blazing pitch!It will not be quenched night or day; its smoke will rise forever. From generation to generation it will lie desolate; no one will ever pass through it again.The desert owl and screech owl will possess it; the great owl and the raven will nest there. God will stretch out over Edom the measuring line of chaos and the plumb line of desolation.Her nobles will have nothing there to be called a kingdom, all her princes will vanish away.Thorns will overrun her citadels, nettles and brambles her strongholds. She will become a haunt for jackals, a home for owls.Desert creatures will meet with hyenas, and wild goats will bleat to each other; there the night creatures will also lie down and find for themselves places of rest.The owl will nest there and lay eggs, she will hatch them, and care for her young under the shadow of her wings; there also the falcons will gather, each with its mate.Look in the scroll of the Lord and read: None of these will be missing, not one will lack her mate. For it is his mouth that has given the order, and his Spirit will gather them together.He allots their portions; his hand distributes them by measure. They will possess it forever and dwell there from generation to generation. (niv)

This is what the Lord, the God of Israel, said to me:“ Take from my hand this cup filled with the wine of my wrath and make all the nations to whom I send you drink it.When they drink it, they will stagger and go mad because of the sword I will send among them.”So I took the cup from the Lord’s hand and made all the nations to whom he sent me drink it:Jerusalem and the towns of Judah, its kings and officials, to make them a ruin and an object of horror and scorn, a curse— as they are today;Pharaoh king of Egypt, his attendants, his officials and all his people,and all the foreign people there; all the kings of Uz; all the kings of the Philistines( those of Ashkelon, Gaza, Ekron, and the people left at Ashdod);Edom, Moab and Ammon;all the kings of Tyre and Sidon; the kings of the coastlands across the sea;Dedan, Tema, Buz and all who are in distant places;all the kings of Arabia and all the kings of the foreign people who live in the wilderness;all the kings of Zimri, Elam and Media;and all the kings of the north, near and far, one after the other— all the kingdoms on the face of the earth. And after all of them, the king of Sheshak will drink it too.“ Then tell them,‘ This is what the Lord Almighty, the God of Israel, says: Drink, get drunk and vomit, and fall to rise no more because of the sword I will send among you.’But if they refuse to take the cup from your hand and drink, tell them,‘ This is what the Lord Almighty says: You must drink it!See, I am beginning to bring disaster on the city that bears my Name, and will you indeed go unpunished? You will not go unpunished, for I am calling down a sword on all who live on the earth, declares the Lord Almighty.’ (niv)

During the last watch of the night the Lord looked down from the pillar of fire and cloud at the Egyptian army and threw it into confusion. (niv)

Even so, when you see all these things, you know that it is near, right at the door. (niv)

Come quickly, all you nations from every side, and assemble there. Bring down your warriors, Lord!“ Let the nations be roused; let them advance into the Valley of Jehoshaphat, for there I will sit to judge all the nations on every side.Swing the sickle, for the harvest is ripe. Come, trample the grapes, for the winepress is full and the vats overflow— so great is their wickedness!”Multitudes, multitudes in the valley of decision! For the day of the Lord is near in the valley of decision. (niv)

“‘ They will throw their silver into the streets, and their gold will be treated as a thing unclean. Their silver and gold will not be able to deliver them in the day of the Lord’s wrath. It will not satisfy their hunger or fill their stomachs, for it has caused them to stumble into sin. (niv)

Don’t grumble against one another, brothers and sisters, or you will be judged. The Judge is standing at the door! (niv)

He will judge the nations, heaping up the dead and crushing the rulers of the whole earth. (niv)

to inflict vengeance on the nations and punishment on the peoples,to bind their kings with fetters, their nobles with shackles of iron,to carry out the sentence written against them— this is the glory of all his faithful people. Praise the Lord. (niv)

For the great day of their wrath has come, and who can withstand it?” (niv)

but the Lord laughs at the wicked, for he knows their day is coming. (niv)

Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. (niv)

A prophecy against Egypt: See, the Lord rides on a swift cloud and is coming to Egypt. The idols of Egypt tremble before him, and the hearts of the Egyptians melt with fear. (niv)

He is dressed in a robe dipped in blood, and his name is the Word of God.The armies of heaven were following him, riding on white horses and dressed in fine linen, white and clean.Coming out of his mouth is a sharp sword with which to strike down the nations.“ He will rule them with an iron scepter.” He treads the winepress of the fury of the wrath of God Almighty.On his robe and on his thigh he has this name written: king of kings and lord of lords.And I saw an angel standing in the sun, who cried in a loud voice to all the birds flying in midair,“ Come, gather together for the great supper of God,so that you may eat the flesh of kings, generals, and the mighty, of horses and their riders, and the flesh of all people, free and slave, great and small.”Then I saw the beast and the kings of the earth and their armies gathered together to wage war against the rider on the horse and his army.But the beast was captured, and with it the false prophet who had performed the signs on its behalf. With these signs he had deluded those who had received the mark of the beast and worshiped its image. The two of them were thrown alive into the fiery lake of burning sulfur.The rest were killed with the sword coming out of the mouth of the rider on the horse, and all the birds gorged themselves on their flesh. I will make the land of Egypt desolate among devastated lands, and her cities will lie desolate forty years among ruined cities. And I will disperse the Egyptians among the nations and scatter them through the countries. (niv)
