“ I looked for someone among them who would build up the wall and stand before me in the gap on behalf of the land so I would not have to destroy it, but I found no one.

現在，你且由着我，我要向他們發烈怒，滅絕他們，但我要使你成為大國。」摩西就懇求耶和華－他的神，說：「耶和華啊，你為甚麼向你的百姓發烈怒呢？這百姓是你用大能大力的手從埃及地領出來的！為甚麼讓埃及人說：『他領他們出去，是要降災禍給他們，在山中把他們殺了，將他們從地上除滅』呢？求你回心轉意，不發你的烈怒，不降災禍給你的百姓。求你記念你的僕人亞伯拉罕、以撒、以色列。你曾向他們指着自己起誓說：『我必使你們的後裔像天上的星那樣多，並且我要將所應許的這全地賜給你們的後裔，讓他們永遠承受為業。』」於是耶和華改變心意，不把所說的災禍降給他的百姓。

耶和華對我說：「雖有摩西和撒母耳站在我面前，我的心也不顧惜這百姓。你把他們從我眼前趕出，叫他們出去吧！

沒有上去堵住缺口，也沒有為以色列家重修城牆，使它在耶和華的日子來臨時，可以在戰爭中站得住。

我仰望，見無人幫助；我詫異，竟無人扶持。因此，我的膀臂為我施行拯救；我的烈怒將我扶持。

亞伯拉罕近前來，說：「你真的要把義人和惡人一同剿滅嗎？假若那城裏有五十個義人，你真的還要剿滅，不因城裏這五十個義人饒了那地方嗎？你絕不會做這樣的事，把義人與惡人一同殺了，使義人與惡人一樣。你絕不會這樣！審判全地的主豈不做公平的事嗎？」耶和華說：「我若在所多瑪城裏找到五十個義人，我就為他們的緣故饒恕那整個地方。」亞伯拉罕回答說：「看哪，我雖只是塵土灰燼，還敢向主說話。假若這五十個義人少了五個，你就因為少了五個而毀滅全城嗎？」他說：「我在那裏若找到四十五個，就不毀滅。」亞伯拉罕又對他說：「假若在那裏找到四十個呢？」他說：「為這四十個的緣故，我也不做。」亞伯拉罕說：「求主不要生氣，容我說，假若在那裏找到三十個呢？」他說：「我在那裏若找到三十個，我也不做。」亞伯拉罕說：「看哪，我還敢向主說，假若在那裏找到二十個呢？」他說：「為這二十個的緣故，我也不毀滅。」亞伯拉罕說：「求主不要生氣，我再說一次，假若在那裏找到十個呢？」他說：「為這十個的緣故，我也不毀滅。」
