But I took a solemn oath against them in the wilderness. I swore I would not bring them into the land I had given them, a land flowing with milk and honey, the most beautiful place on earth.

并且我在旷野向他们起誓，必不领他们进入我所赐给他们流奶与蜜之地，那地在万国中是有荣耀的；

我在旷野也曾经向他们举手起誓，必不领他们到我赐给他们的流奶与蜜之地，就是万邦中最荣美的地。

我並且我在曠野也曾向他們舉手起了誓、必不領他們進我所賜給他們、流奶與蜜之地，就是在列邦中最華美的；

我復在野發誓、必不導之入我所賜流乳與蜜之地、即諸地之美者、

彼尚在曠野、我誓不導之入產乳與蜜之地、斯地列國所羨美。

我亦在曠野為之發誓、必不導之入我所賜之之地、即流乳與蜜之地、其地在列國中最佳美、

Also with uplifted hand I swore to them in the wilderness that I would not bring them into the land I had given them— a land flowing with milk and honey, the most beautiful of all lands—

I also raised my hand and made a promise in the desert. I told my people I would not bring them into the land I had given them. It had plenty of milk and honey. It was the most beautiful land of all.

“ When the Lord heard your complaining, he became very angry. So he solemnly swore,‘ Not one of you from this wicked generation will live to see the good land I swore to give your ancestors,

They will never even see the land I swore to give their ancestors. None of those who have treated me with contempt will ever see it.But my servant Caleb has a different attitude than the others have. He has remained loyal to me, so I will bring him into the land he explored. His descendants will possess their full share of that land.Now turn around, and don’t go on toward the land where the Amalekites and Canaanites live. Tomorrow you must set out for the wilderness in the direction of the Red Sea.”Then the Lord said to Moses and Aaron,“ How long must I put up with this wicked community and its complaints about me? Yes, I have heard the complaints the Israelites are making against me.Now tell them this:‘ As surely as I live, declares the Lord, I will do to you the very things I heard you say.You will all drop dead in this wilderness! Because you complained against me, every one of you who is twenty years old or older and was included in the registration will die.You will not enter and occupy the land I swore to give you. The only exceptions will be Caleb son of Jephunneh and Joshua son of Nun.

Not one person on this list had been among those listed in the previous registration taken by Moses and Aaron in the wilderness of Sinai.For the Lord had said of them,“ They will all die in the wilderness.” Not one of them survived except Caleb son of Jephunneh and Joshua son of Nun.

But I took a solemn oath against them in the wilderness. I swore I would scatter them among all the nations

For only we who believe can enter his rest. As for the others, God said,“ In my anger I took an oath:‘ They will never enter my place of rest,’” even though this rest has been ready since he made the world.

And to whom was God speaking when he took an oath that they would never enter his rest? Wasn’t it the people who disobeyed him?
