“ Suppose a man is righteous and does what is just and right:

人若為義、循法合理、

“ Suppose there is a righteous man who does what is just and right.

“ Suppose there is a godly man who does what is fair and right.

“ If a man is righteous and does what is just and right—

“ Suppose a certain man is righteous and does what is just and right.

“ But if a man is righteous and practices justice and righteousness,

But if a man is just And does what is lawful and right;

But if a man be just, and do that which is lawful and right,

“ Now suppose a man is righteous and does what is just and right:

But if a man be just, and do that which is lawful and right,

“ Suppose a man is righteous. He practices what is just and right,

“ But if a man is just, and does that which is lawful and right,

The one who has clean hands and a pure heart, who has not appealed to what is false, and who has not sworn deceitfully.He will receive blessing from the LORD, and righteousness from the God of his salvation.Such is the generation of those who inquire of him, who seek the face of the God of Jacob. Selah

eternal life to those who by persistence in doing good seek glory, honor, and immortality;but wrath and anger to those who are self-seeking and disobey the truth while obeying unrighteousness.There will be affliction and distress for every human being who does evil, first to the Jew, and also to the Greek;but glory, honor, and peace for everyone who does what is good, first to the Jew, and also to the Greek.

But be doers of the word and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.Because if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like someone looking at his own face in a mirror.For he looks at himself, goes away, and immediately forgets what kind of person he was.But the one who looks intently into the perfect law of freedom and perseveres in it, and is not a forgetful hearer but a doer who works— this person will be blessed in what he does.

“ Not everyone who says to me,‘ Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father in heaven.On that day many will say to me,‘ Lord, Lord, didn’t we prophesy in your name, drive out demons in your name, and do many miracles in your name?’Then I will announce to them,‘ I never knew you. Depart from me, you lawbreakers!’“ Therefore, everyone who hears these words of mine and acts on them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock.The rain fell, the rivers rose, and the winds blew and pounded that house. Yet it didn’t collapse, because its foundation was on the rock.But everyone who hears these words of mine and doesn’t act on them will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand.The rain fell, the rivers rose, the winds blew and pounded that house, and it collapsed. It collapsed with a great crash.”

If you know that he is righteous, you know this as well: Everyone who does what is right has been born of him.

Are you a king because you excel in cedar? Didn’t your father eat and drink and administer justice and righteousness? Then it went well with him.

This is how we know that we know him: if we keep his commands.

Little children, let no one deceive you. The one who does what is right is righteous, just as he is righteous.

For I have chosen him so that he will command his children and his house after him to keep the way of the LORD by doing what is right and just. This is how the LORD will fulfill to Abraham what he promised him.”

“ Blessed are those who wash their robes, so that they may have the right to the tree of life and may enter the city by the gates.

The one who lives blamelessly, practices righteousness, and acknowledges the truth in his heart—who does not slander with his tongue, who does not harm his friend or discredit his neighbor,who despises the one rejected by the LORD but honors those who fear the LORD, who keeps his word whatever the cost,who does not lend his silver at interest or take a bribe against the innocent— the one who does these things will never be shaken.

Doing what is righteous and just is more acceptable to the LORD than sacrifice.

“‘ So when I tell the wicked person,“ You will surely die,” but he repents of his sin and does what is just and right—

This is how we know that we love God’s children: when we love God and obey his commands.For this is what love for God is: to keep his commands. And his commands are not a burden,because everyone who has been born of God conquers the world. This is the victory that has conquered the world: our faith.Who is the one who conquers the world but the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God?

What good is it, my brothers and sisters, if someone claims to have faith but does not have works? Can such faith save him?If a brother or sister is without clothes and lacks daily foodand one of you says to them,“ Go in peace, stay warm, and be well fed,” but you don’t give them what the body needs, what good is it?In the same way faith, if it does not have works, is dead by itself.But someone will say,“ You have faith, and I have works.” Show me your faith without works, and I will show you faith by my works.You believe that God is one. Good! Even the demons believe— and they shudder.Senseless person! Are you willing to learn that faith without works is useless?Wasn’t Abraham our father justified by works in offering Isaac his son on the altar?You see that faith was active together with his works, and by works, faith was made complete,and the Scripture was fulfilled that says, Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness, and he was called God’s friend.You see that a person is justified by works and not by faith alone.In the same way, wasn’t Rahab the prostitute also justified by works in receiving the messengers and sending them out by a different route?For just as the body without the spirit is dead, so also faith without works is dead.
