The Lord your God is bringing you into a good land. It has brooks, streams and deep springs of water. Those springs flow in its valleys and hills.It has wheat, barley, vines, fig trees, pomegranates, olive oil and honey.There is plenty of food in that land. You will have everything you need. Its rocks have iron in them. And you can dig copper out of its hills.

They will spring up like grass in a meadow. They will grow like poplar trees near flowing streams.

Nebuchadnezzar, the king of Babylon, appointed Zedekiah to be king of Judah. He was the son of Josiah. Zedekiah ruled in place of Jehoiachin, the son of Jehoiakim.

Then Nebuchadnezzar made a peace treaty with Zedekiah. He was a member of Jerusalem’s royal family. Nebuchadnezzar made him promise he would keep the treaty. He also took away the leading men of the land as prisoners.

The people are trying to escape through the Valley of the Poplar Trees. They are carrying with them the wealth they have collected and stored up.

Its branches were strong. Each was good enough to be made into a ruler’s scepter. The vine grew high above all the leaves. It stood out because it was so tall and had so many branches.But Nebuchadnezzar became angry. He pulled it up by its roots. He threw it to the ground. The east wind dried it up. Its fruit was stripped off. Its strong branches dried up. And fire destroyed them.

Nebuchadnezzar made Jehoiachin’s uncle Mattaniah king in his place. And Nebuchadnezzar changed Mattaniah’s name to Zedekiah.
