Son of man, what is this proverb that ye have in the land of Israel, saying, The days are prolonged, and every vision faileth?

Son of man, behold, they of the house of Israel say, The vision that he seeth is for many days to come, and he prophesieth of times that are far off.

What mean ye, that ye use this proverb concerning the land of Israel, saying, The fathers have eaten sour grapes, and the children’s teeth are set on edge?As I live, saith the Lord Jehovah, ye shall not have occasion any more to use this proverb in Israel.

They have denied Jehovah, and said, It is not he; neither shall evil come upon us; neither shall we see sword nor famine:and the prophets shall become wind, and the word is not in them: thus shall it be done unto them.

knowing this first, that in the last days mockers shall come with mockery, walking after their own lusts,and saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for, from the day that the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation.

that say, Let him make speed, let him hasten his work, that we may see it; and let the counsel of the Holy One of Israel draw nigh and come, that we may know it!

And when this people, or the prophet, or a priest, shall ask thee, saying, What is the burden of Jehovah? then shalt thou say unto them, What burden! I will cast you off, saith Jehovah.And as for the prophet, and the priest, and the people, that shall say, The burden of Jehovah, I will even punish that man and his house.Thus shall ye say every one to his neighbor, and every one to his brother, What hath Jehovah answered? and, What hath Jehovah spoken?And the burden of Jehovah shall ye mention no more: for every man’s own word shall be his burden; for ye have perverted the words of the living God, of Jehovah of hosts our God.Thus shalt thou say to the prophet, What hath Jehovah answered thee? and, What hath Jehovah spoken?But if ye say, The burden of Jehovah; therefore thus saith Jehovah: Because ye say this word, The burden of Jehovah, and I have sent unto you, saying, Ye shall not say, The burden of Jehovah;therefore, behold, I will utterly forget you, and I will cast you off, and the city that I gave unto you and to your fathers, away from my presence:and I will bring an everlasting reproach upon you, and a perpetual shame, which shall not be forgotten.

Behold, every one that useth proverbs shall use this proverb against thee, saying, As is the mother, so is her daughter.
