But I will spare a few of them from the sword, famine and plague, so that in the nations where they go they may acknowledge all their detestable practices. Then they will know that I am the Lord.”

如其邑尚有遺民、所留子女必遭俘囚、至爾同擄之所、使爾見其所為、知我降災於耶路撒冷、而怨心悉平、爾見其所為、知我降災、非出無因、則爾怨悉平、我耶和華已言之矣。

凡鄰國眾庶、經過是邑、互相告語、曰、耶和華罰此大邑、何為至於若斯。人必曰、斯民背其上帝耶和華之約、崇拜服事他上帝、故有此罰。

爾散於列邦、中有遺民、得脫鋒刃、我使之然。昔斯民違逆予、狥心目所欲、崇拜偶像、使予懷憂、故我使彼為俘囚、流離列國、免難之民繫念我躬、為所作之惡、自怨自艾、使彼知我乃耶和華、昔言降災、要非虛詞。

耶和華又曰斯民犯罪、我耶和華所目睹、必加翦滅、雅各之家、我滅之猶有孑遺、我必使以色列族散於列邦、若簸揚於篩、一粒之穀、不使隕落、

民曰、如萬有之主耶和華、不俾我眾猶有孑遺、則必若所多馬、蛾摩拉矣。

耶和華曰、雖遍地荒蕪、我怒猶不息。

我儕犯罪作惡、違爾律例、棄爾禮儀、爾臣僕諸先知、藉爾之名、告我王公祖父國民之語、我不聽從、主秉公義、惟我儕猶大人耶路撒冷居民、以色列族眾、無論遐邇、因犯罪愆、為爾驅逐、星散於四方、俱當含羞、今日之事為證。我與我王公列祖、獲罪乎主、必當抱愧蒙羞、我主我上帝矜憫為懷、恆加赦宥、我儕違逆、不遵我之上帝耶和華、不從爾臣僕諸先知訓我之律例、我以色列眾犯爾律法、不遵爾命、我既獲罪、故爾僕摩西律例所載之咒詛、臨於我躬、爾素責我、及我士師、必降大災、今已應矣、降罰耶路撒冷、較天下民尤嚴、

斯土之民、既遭斯難、尚有孑遺、若收橄欖果、拾葡萄實、猶留數顆、

自昔以來、我之列祖、竭勞而得、牛羊子女、悉為可惡者、吞噬無遺。自古迄今、我之列祖、爰及我躬、獲罪於我之上帝耶和華、不遵其命、故蒙羞恥、一蹶不振。

以色列族其數雖多若海沙、而歸服者亦僅無幾、萬有之主耶和華、秉公行義以治民、必在國中、翦滅斯眾、其意已定。

耶和華又曰、我左右爾、拯救爾、我昔散爾於列邦、盡滅列邦、而爾不盡滅、乃我降災、責爾獨寛、

其中居民、尚存什一、屢遭喪敗、譬彼橡樹、雖經斬伐、猶留其幹、為善之人亦若是。

斯時不稍減其日、則無得救者、蓋為所選之民、此日可稍減耳、

俱必問曰、耶和華降罰於斯土、何為至於如此、其烈怒之甚、又曷故乎。人必曰、昔導斯民出於埃及、其祖之上帝耶和華與之立約、斯民違其言、從他上帝而崇奉之、然他上帝彼所未識、耶和華亦未嘗姑聽其服事、故震怒斯民、以書所載之咒詛、加乎其身。耶和華怒甚烈、氣甚憤、拔其根株、驅逐於異邦、即以今日之事為證。

如爾及子孫、背逆乎我、不守所命之禮儀禁令、奉事他上帝、我將於所賜之地、殲滅以色列族、我所成聖之殿、為籲名之所者必毀、使以色列族為兆民作歌譏刺。凡過此有名之殿宇、必駭異、作怨憤之聲。如有詢及者曰、耶和華毀此殿、害此國也、曷故。則必答曰、昔其上帝耶和華、導其列祖出於埃及、彼乃違逆、反簡他上帝、奉事崇拜、故耶和華降以是災。

以賽亞言以色列人曰、以色列眾子、其數雖如海沙、而得救者有幾、

如其能任己愆、及前人之罪、自知差失、所行逆我、受我譴責、驅至敵國、在彼服罪、緣其不潔之心、卑以自牧、

引而之生、其門也窄、其路也狹、得之者少、○

默示何也、曰、我遺七千人、未嘗曲跽巴力、今猶有幾人、乃上帝垂恩遴選者、

我必使爾苗裔、如塵沙然、若有能核塵沙之數者、則爾苗裔、亦可計矣。

爾追念曩時之惡行、為我所痛疾、則必自怨自艾。
