If you refuse to let them go and continue to hold them back,

Do not refuse to let them go. Do not keep holding them back.

God is a righteous judge, a God who displays his wrath every day.If he does not relent, he will sharpen his sword; he will bend and string his bow. (niv)

“‘ If in spite of this you still do not listen to me but continue to be hostile toward me,then in my anger I will be hostile toward you, and I myself will punish you for your sins seven times over. (niv)

“‘ But if you will not listen to me and carry out all these commands,and if you reject my decrees and abhor my laws and fail to carry out all my commands and so violate my covenant,then I will do this to you: I will bring on you sudden terror, wasting diseases and fever that will destroy your sight and sap your strength. I have given her time to repent of her immorality, but she is unwilling.So I will cast her on a bed of suffering, and I will make those who commit adultery with her suffer intensely, unless they repent of her ways. (niv)

but if you resist and rebel, you will be devoured by the sword.” For the mouth of the Lord has spoken. (niv)

They were seared by the intense heat and they cursed the name of God, who had control over these plagues, but they refused to repent and glorify him. (niv)

Surely God will crush the heads of his enemies, the hairy crowns of those who go on in their sins. (niv)
