耶和华对摩西说：“你要向天伸杖，使埃及全地都有冰雹，落在人身上、在牲畜身上和埃及地田间所有的蔬菜上。”摩西把手杖向天一伸，耶和华就打雷（“打雷”原文作“神的声音”）下雹，有火落在地上；耶和华使冰雹降在埃及地上。那时有了冰雹，冰雹与火混杂在一起，十分严重；埃及全地自从建国以来，未曾有过这样的冰雹。在埃及全地，冰雹把田间的一切，连人和牲畜都击打了；冰雹又把田间的一切蔬菜击打了，也把田间的一切树木打断了。

这是因为当神人对王说：“明天大约这个时分，在撒玛利亚城门口，六公斤大麦卖十一克银子，三公斤面粉也卖十一克银子。”

以利沙说：“你们要听耶和华的话。耶和华这样说：‘明日大约这个时候，在撒玛利亚的城门，三公斤面粉只卖十一克银子，六公斤大麦也只是卖十一克银子。’”

求你也照样用狂风追赶他们，藉暴风雨惊吓他们。

明天大约这个时间，我要差派我的臣仆到你那里去；他们要搜查你的王宫和你臣仆的家；凡是他们看为宝贵的，他们都要下手拿走。’”

耶洗别就差派一个使者去见以利亚说：“明天这个时候，如果我不使你的性命，像那些人一样，愿神明惩罚我，并且加倍惩罚我。”
