The names of Aaron’s sons were Nadab( the oldest), Abihu, Eleazar, and Ithamar.These sons of Aaron were anointed and ordained to minister as priests.But Nadab and Abihu died in the Lord’s presence in the wilderness of Sinai when they burned before the Lord the wrong kind of fire, different than he had commanded. Since they had no sons, this left only Eleazar and Ithamar to serve as priests with their father, Aaron.

When Herod was king of Judea, there was a Jewish priest named Zechariah. He was a member of the priestly order of Abijah, and his wife, Elizabeth, was also from the priestly line of Aaron.

Then Moses, Aaron, Nadab, Abihu, and the seventy elders of Israel climbed up the mountain.

In this way, they disobeyed the Lord by burning before him the wrong kind of fire, different than he had commanded.So fire blazed forth from the Lord’s presence and burned them up, and they died there before the Lord.
