每一个大祭司都是从人间选出来，奉派替人办理与神有关的事，为的是要献上礼物和赎罪的祭物。他能够温和地对待那些无知和迷误的人，因为他自己也被软弱所困。因此，他怎样为人民的罪献祭，也应该怎样为自己的罪献祭。没有人可以自己取得这大祭司的尊荣，只有像亚伦一样，蒙神选召的才可以。照样，基督也没有自己争取作大祭司的尊荣，而是曾经对他说：“你是我的儿子，我今日生了你”的神荣耀了他；就像他在另一处说：“你是照着麦基洗德的体系，永远作祭司的。”基督在世的时候，曾经流泪大声祷告恳求那位能救他脱离死亡的神；因着他的敬虔，就蒙了应允。他虽然是儿子，还是因着所受的苦难学会了顺从。他既然顺从到底（“他既然顺从到底”或译：“他既然达到完全”），就成了所有顺从他的人得到永远救恩的根源；而且蒙神照着麦基洗德的体系，称他为大祭司。论到这些事，我们有很多话要说，可是很难解释；因为你们已经迟钝了，听不进去。到这个时候，你们应该已经作老师了；可是你们还需要有人再把神道理的初步教导你们。你们成了只能吃奶而不能吃干粮的人！凡是吃奶的，还是个婴孩，对公义的道理没有经历；只有长大成人的，才能吃干粮，他们的官能因为操练纯熟，就能分辨是非了。

因为有为他作证的说：“你永远作祭司，是照着麦基洗德的体系。”一方面，从前的条例因为软弱，没有用处，就废弃了；（因为律法从来没有使什么得到完全，）另一方面，它却带来了更美的盼望，藉着这盼望，我们就可以亲近神。此外，还有关于誓言的事。其他成为祭司的，并不是用誓言立的；只有耶稣是用誓言立的，因为那立他的对他说：“主已经起了誓，决不改变，你永远作祭司。”耶稣既然是用誓言立的，就成了更美好的约的保证。一方面，从前那些作祭司的，因为受死亡的限制，不能长久留任，所以人数众多。另一方面，因为耶稣是永远长存的，就拥有他永不更改的祭司职位。

我们所讲论的重点，就是我们有这样的一位大祭司，他已经坐在众天之上至尊者的宝座右边，在至圣所和真会幕里供职；这真会幕是主支搭的，不是人支搭的。所有大祭司都是为了献礼物和祭品而设立的，所以这位大祭司，也必须有所献上的。如果他在地上，就不会作祭司，因为已经有按照律法献礼物的祭司了。这些祭司所供奉的职事，不过是天上的事物的副本和影像，就如摩西将要造会幕的时候，神曾经警告他说：“你要留心，各样物件，都要照着在山上指示你的样式去作。”但是现在耶稣得了更尊贵的职分，正好像他是更美的约的中保，这约是凭着更美的应许立的。如果头一个约没有缺点，就没有寻求另一个约的必要了。可是神指责他们，说：“看哪，主说，日子要到了，我要与以色列家和犹大家订立新约。这新约不像从前我拉他们祖先的手，领他们出埃及的日子与他们所立的约。因为他们没有遵守我的约，我就不理会他们。这是主说的。主说：‘因为在那些日子以后，我要与以色列家所立的约是这样：我要把我的律法放在他们的心思里面，写在他们的心上。我要作他们的神，他们要作我的子民。

要给亚伦和他儿子束上腰带，包上头巾；这样，他们就按永远的定例，得了祭司的职分。你又要把亚伦和他儿子们分别为圣。

他没有父亲，没有母亲，没有族谱，也没有生死的记录，而是与神的儿子相似，永远作祭司。

这一日必作你们的记念日；你们要守这日为耶和华的节；你们要世世代代守这节日作永远的定例。

向来都是位分大的给位分小的祝福，这是毫无疑问的。

你要告诉以色列人说：‘你们世世代代要把这油归我为圣膏油。

无论谁配制相似的膏油，或把这膏油抹在外人的身上，这人就一定要从他的族人中被剪除。’”
